Eda
no i wasn't hired to work saturdays and sundays, and 8 months should be enough to get a flexible schedule.

First option I can come up with is to look for one of your coworkers that have Saturday and Sunday off, you might want to ask them to take cover on you those days. Another, if you are ready to quit tell your boss that you have an a emergency family leave, which sounds like it is, and don't show up. I hope it works the first option.

What are his reasons for saying NO. Without really knowing that, it is hard to answer. However, you should try to talk to him again or finding a cover for your absence. You are not asking for too much, but at the same time give it a try one more time. Quiting is not a solution here.

if you were hired to work Sat and Sundays then you are asking for too much (8 months is NOT a long time at a job)

If you're thinking about quitting that decision depends on how much you need the job.

How difficult would it be to get another job?

You to need to give the matter some serious thought before you quit.

What's the reason you want the weekend off?

well you have your choice if you want to continue working you have to obey your boss otherwise the door is waiting for you, if no quit and find a better job with better schedules, i dont think your boss is gonna change of opinion but you could try to negociate with him in a nice manner just tell him that at least you need 2 weekends off in a month.

I think that you have a choice to make. Most people underestimate their ability to get another job. If this job doesn't suit you and your desires, try to get another job. If you cannot get another job, you should appreciate your current employer and do what they need you to do. But I doubt that you cannot find another job.
