I am aware that this has every intention of becoming serious, but to what extent? It is between the C and the H but when I stop or slow down, it rather quickly goes to H. Help!

I agree with the poster who advises that your cooling fan is not working. When the vehicle is in motion, there is enough airflow through the radiator to keep the engine coolant from overheating, but when you are stopped, the air flow stops as well. As the engine reaches a certain temperature, the PCM closes the ground side of the cooling fan relay to operate the fan until the coolant temperature decreases. You could have a problem with either a failed relay, the cooling fan motor burned out, or the wiring in the cooling fan circuit is faulty. Hope this helps.

you could also have a bad sending unit or sensor or a lose wire or plug at the sensor.
