For example, I was reading a forum in which two people were going at it. One person completely insulted the other person and ended with "that's all. :)"
The other person came back and insulted, then ended with the same phrase? I see that all the time and I think it's ridiculous. Are people just too dumb and uncreative to come up with their own stuff, even on the Internet?

in most cases, the other person just doesn't having a winning arguement and switch to insulting the other person. They become childish instead of just dropping the whole thing. Then there are those people who make it a habit to go on forums only to start fights. Again there are no winning arguements with them. Either way, you probably are seeing people like that.

Everyone believes in how they think it ought to be. The problem lies in not being able to express said beliefs. So because they feel the need to argue anyway, they often borrow from someone else's format to do so. I wouldn't classify it as dumb and uncreative, although I have entertained such thoughts, but more as pressing onwards without the formal knowledge to express their thoughts properly.
