I mostly want to use it while I run, so I want it to be small (ipod nano?) I also want it to hold alot of songs and be easy to operate...not too high tech but I like a lot of features. I do not need video. Also, something not too pricey. Im not even sure how much they cost. Any info is a big help!
-Thanks

If it's primarily for use when you're running, do not get a player with an actual hard-drive, as they don't get along very well with strong physical shocks (like your foot hitting the ground), especially while they're reading data from the platens (like the music that you'd want to listen to). You will want to buy something with Flash memory. That limits you to the Nano (2GB, 4GB, or 8GB) or the Shuffle (1GB only) if you plan to stick with the iPod family. The Shuffle only costs $80, while the Nano costs from $150-250, depending on capacity. The rule is about 240 songs per GB of capacity (so the 8GB will hold roughly 1920 songs, which should take roughly six straight days to play through). You can cheat the number of songs by importing them at a lower bit-rate than the iTunes default is set at, but if you reduce it too much the sound quality will begin to drop noticably. And while all of the iPods (except the shuffle, which has no screen built in) offer you the ability to play by playlist, artist, album, genre, or even composer, the Nano does not offer video or iTunes-purchased games. It's also considerably smaller and less heavy than the versions that are equpped with hard-drives. But yes, you will be paying a premium for the flash drive, which is considerably more expensive by capacity than basic hard-drives.

Oh, and BTW, you don't have to use iTunes to purchase songs. You can rip your entire CD collection into iTunes for free (not counting the cost of your personal labor), or purchase songs through any service that sells them in MP3 format (though this format, while nice for being universal to every portable digital music player, has the unfortunate downside that it tends to sound quite muddy compared to pretty much any other format out there).

I'm not sure if they make them for Video iPods, but arm bands for running are manufactured for Nanos. The largest Nano (8GB) holds about 2,000 songs, which is between about 130 and 200 albums. However, the 8GB Nano costs the same as a 30GB Video.

You deffinatly do not want to go with the ipod video, esp. if you are going to be running with it. the larger video ipods have hard drives rather than flashdrives like the nano. While running the hard drive will take too much abuse (personal experience) and crash. The nano is perfect for running, they even make a sensor you can put in your shoe to messure distance, speed, ect ect through the nano itself. The 2 Gig is well priced at about 197.99 and being a flashdrive it is very durrable for runners. As for features it has tons you can load songs, pictures, contact list, calender, optional microphone, TONS of accesories, and Ipod is a trusted name.

You have to specify what you mean by "alot of songs" because this varies based on the individual. For example, I have over 4200 songs.

For running though, I would recommend the iPod Nano just because it is really small and can hold a generous amount of songs. If you want something for pure running, however, the Shuffle is a good choice. It's about the size of a condom wrapper, and it clips onto things (eg. shorts, shirt, shoes).

The nano is the one to get. Depending on how many GB you buy you can hold up to 1000 songs. Also ou can get alot of accesories for it like home systems it can plug into and car adapters for it. $197 for a nano but it is worth it. The others are nice but the nano is the way to go.

well.i just did a project on ipods for school, plus i own an ipod nano, and i personally think that nanos are great for excersizing.
plus they are small, and you can get those arm bands that hold a nano on your arm for running PLUS...
they don't have a harddrive(i think it is called)so they don't skip, which is awesome.
they hold lots of songs, and are really easy to operate.
and a shuffle is an option. they don't hold as many songs, but they clip anywhere and they are super cheap!

i dont really know why ud want a ipod, because its pretty much a waste of money because it doesn't have any other functions other than mp3's. I got a Sansa, 8gigs, cheaper than nano, has radio, voice recorder, very small and light, cute too.

i guess if you really want to buy the brand, go ahead.. be "cool" but if u want the best mp3 player for the cheapest price, id get a sansa

...also if u get an ipod u can only use itunes to get songs.. thats 99cents per song... so u get 100 songs, and u gotta spend 100bucks?? what a rip off! with the sansa, and other mp3 players, u can get it off limewire or whatever downloading for free. plus, apple is getting sued because theyre making itunes a monopoly for ipod..

you might as well just use the ipod video because the 8 gig nano is the same price and the video holds like 7-15 thousand songs

The IPOD shuffle is $79 with 1 gb that is about 240 songs, the size is 1x1inches. it has no screen but it is very light and sounds as good as the nano and larger IPOD
