I like it for the plot, as someone else said. But many readers like it because of the main character, Elizabeth Bennet.
If you read this book, realize that the author was satirizing the customs of the middle class in England around 1800.
There are a lot of characters, but if you can keep them straight, I think you'll like this book.
No car chases, no profanity, no suggestive love scenes, for better or worse.
A lot of talking, dancing, visiting, talking, letter-reading, and talking.
But there has to be something for readers to love this book for almost 200 years. And Hollywood has made several versions.
If you'd really like to understand "Pride and Prejudice," try reading it along with another book called "What Charles Dickens ate and Jane Austen knew." (Or maybe I have the names turned around?) It is very helpful for understanding this time period.
Happy reading!

It is possibly the greatest book ever written. I cannot recomend it highly enough. the language, the story , Mr Darcy, its all perfect. The film (good though it was) not a patch on the book.
The intricacies of all the relationships, you cannot appreciate in the film, especially when Lydia elopes with Mr Wickham and the aftermath of that. I could go on and I tend to given long enough.... please read it!

Yes, I have read the book.
I loved the story, but it was very difficult to get into because, like the movie it was very wordy. The story is a beautiful story once you can get past that.

It is one of the greatest books written in English. I loved the quiet irony and keen understanding of human behavior Jane Austen brought to her novels. In its own way, the book is extremely funny. It begins with these words:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife."
I used Austen as one of three authors I studied for my Master's exam. Good stuff.
