Hindu deities are the symbollic representation of the Lord. Many atheists say it is a metal or stone only.Of course, that material substance gives the clue to attain spiritualism. In this material world itself we are giving so many symbols to represent a material. For example ,on the road side the '+' symbol indicates there is a 'hospital'nearby.one who knows the meaning of the symbol can easily go the hospital.others will wander.
Like that "vel"(a weapon ), in the lord murugan hand, is symbollic representation of 'knowledge'. in the "vel" there are three points i.e.sharp,width&length.One's knowledge must be sharp like "vel's" tip. That knowledge must be widened enough like the "vel's" width.Again that knowledge must be deeper enough like the "vel's" length. In Tamil it is customary to use the phrase,"vel undu vinai illai" in all murugan temples.'One who has the real knowledge will get free from all miseries' is the meaning for that phrase.Like this each and every symbol in the hindu deities is a symbollic representation of the lord.Use your brain to know the meaning of the symbols with the help of a real GURU.
Attaining Lord is a secret one.one who has the real knowledge only can attain Lord.TRY!
