Hi,
I need major fashion advice. I will be attending the wedding of my dad and his wonderful fiance. The wedding will be held in New York City next week at 4:00pm. This wedding is so special because two years ago I was reunited with my dad after years or searching for him. I last saw him when I was 5 years old (I'm 34 now). It turned out to be a wonderful reunion that you would only see in fairy tales and we've spent the last two years catching up and taking trips to see each other. As part of the ceremony, I will be called to the altar to accept my grandmother's favorite ring (she died about 3 years before I found my dad). I have NO idea what to wear. I don't know much about how to dress in NYC much less for a wedding in NYC. Any advice or links to suggested pictures would be so very much appreciated.
Thanks!

The city doesn't matter; what matters is the formality of the wedding itself. As a general rule, when in doubt, ask the bride.

I assume it's going to be indoors judging by the time of year, and probably semi-formal attire judging by the time of day. Which means a below the knee or tea length dress would be most suitable.

Even though you're not an attendant, I would use the bridal colors as a basis for the dress. You are going to have a small role in the ceremony, it shows your support for the marriage, and it's a complement to the bride. Don't wear one of her actual colors, but a color in the same family to blend nicely without looking like you are trying to insert yourself into a a bridesmaid position. Like if one of her colors in powder blue, then look for a cornflower blue dress.

The cut and style of the dress should be what suits your body type the best. When you look your best, it shows that you put a lot of time, effort, and thought into showing appreciation of their special day. Figure out your body type for a style of dress. You can do that here:

Then to look classy, make sure the fabric of the dress isn't a cheap, i.e. no 100% polyester, rayon, nylon. Silk, satins, georgettes, chiffons are all better material choices. Try department stores (Macy's, Nordstrom, JC Penney, etc...) instead of speciality stores for a wide range of dresses, without spending a fortune for what may be a one time wear.

Lastly, make sure the dress is simple, yet elegant. No sequins, rhinestones, plunging necklines, beading, metallic fabrics, or anything else that looks like an evening or party dress.

My first job was escorting maidens around for the shopping.
As a tour guide, there is so much at Rockefeller plaza, skates,
is a must, just to take some pictures. Anyway the trend is to
get close to the style setters, that bodice stuff Madonna did is
back in the evening wear, and the day cut is very recent. The
mizrah, or versace look is good for weddings. When you choose go by the color you want to feel fresh. Say a lite salmon
brass, it matters what the trim and accessories are about. The
shoes and hat are your first task, practical, and adorable. In
the bag, jewelry, sweater for this season I would stay near
the shell and keep the bag off fanciful. Go with the quick
check of what you like, it is cold so try deeper nylon and
coat selection. Winter colors for New York are greens, seas,
shells, beige, and pink. Blessings for the family.

From your picture I think you are very pretty so whatever you wear will look great I am sure. I hope you have a wonderful time and find that perfect dress so you can feel great too! I love the idea of them calling you to the alter to give you your grandmothers ring, that is a very thoughtful gesture. Have fun!

I would get a nice dress that will look good with your hair and maybe a clip for your hair that matches the dress. and a cute pair of heels.

ITS JUST A WEDDING IN NYC, NO NEED TO LOOK ANY DIFFERENT THAN WEARING SOMETHING IF IT WAS SOMEWHERE ELSE. JUST WEAR A RED DRESS OR SOMETHING.
