If you are concerned about germs in public restrooms, why would you use a blanket as a changing pad? You can't wipe it down with antibacterial wipes. And how will you know which side was touching the public changing table? Next time you change the diaper, your baby may be touching the other side.

I think that people can become paranoid about germs. Germs area actually good for developing the immune system. I've never heard of a baby dying or even getting sick from lying on a dirty change table before. There are germs everywhere. Think of all the people who don't wash their hands after going to the washroom. Relax

It's not really that big of a deal, usually. Most people would use their blanket as something of a last resort, and most of them would not use the blanket again until it was washed. Or, maybe the blanket has a print on one side, and is a solid color on the other, so the parent can keep it straight. If I don't have a changing pad in my bag, or if we don't have the gigantic lay-flat stroller with us, then I will get paper towels from the dispenser and line the table with those.

I guess you saw someone doing this in a restroom today, or maybe someone you were with was doing it? If you saw someone, you really ought to just calm down. You don't know what the circumstances were, and maybe they have a system, like I mentioned some above. If it's someone you were with, and you know that they don't do any of the things above, then maybe you should've spoken up then and there, instead of ranting about it on Yahoo! Answers.

I saw the other question regarding this issue. I always carried a receiving blanket in my diaper bag and if I needed to change the baby in a public restroom I put the blanket down on the table, change the baby, ball up the blanket and put it in a plastic bag and put it in the dirty laundry when I got home. I would never REUSE the blanket until it was washed.

I was thinking the same thing!!! In addition to that, what happens when you find yourself needing a blanket for the baby and the only one you have without spit-up on it is the one you laid on a public changing table. Or you grab the wrong blanket and wrap it around the baby. I like the idea of using disposable changing pads. I didn't know they existed but they may not have when I had my last baby.

Thanks for pointing that out.

People these days are getting out of control with their specifications on how to do this and do that with a baby. SO what if they use a blanket take it home and wash it. So what if the baby doestn soil the blanket at all. My baby gets changed on a blanket once in a while and as long as she doesnt pee when I have her diaper off its all good in my opinion. Its probably not a good idea to not wash it once you take it off the change pad for sure..but changing a baby on a blanket isnt that horrible.

It's really not that big of a deal. Your children are more likely to get sick from all the other people in this public place just walking by, than from the changing table. Gosh, seriously calm down!

I think you and your baby will be okay no matter what. Bring 2 blankets and wash the blanket when you get home.
