i wanna hear your opinions on bringing him to the MLS.

my thoughts...

1) they want him for publicity. because women are all over him.
2) trying to get the MLS more respect and prestige. (never will happen)
3) taking a risk on a player who already went through his prime.

I think he's overpaid and will make no difference in fan turnout for soccer.

Well, I think he is no longer the good player he used to be, that's why he is not the captain of The England team, and he spends most of the time on the bench on Real Madrid, I am sure they just brought him for marketing reasons, being that he is a well known figure by everyone not just woman, some kids admire him too. They absolutely are not taking a risk on him, he will bring big bucks to the MLS, and that is just opening the door to make a better soccer, because now all the other teams will have to add stars to its roasters if they want to keep being a good competitive teams. My kids are very excited about the news, they like David Beckham, but they are die hard fans of Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, and a lot of very good soccer players.

1. His current team was not to happy with him to being with.
2. He was offered that insane amount because they know they will make so much more in return. He's a marketing boy toy.
3. He is in his early 30's and only has a few more quality soccer years left in him.
4. Him coming here won't attract more fans to the game of soccer. It will only increase the number of tickets sales by those who already attend.
5. He better live up to some of the hype. The media here is heartless when it comes to highly over paid athletes on any stage under performing.

In all, I wish him well. Soccer needs all the help it can get in this country.

I thought he was only the name of a character in the movie Bend it like...Then I saw him on the news! I heard this morning on the news what they will be paying him, and I thought he must be some good. I may actually go to see him play; I have many friends who will go. I suppose my biggest concern is how the traffic will be terrible when he comes here; I live only a mile and a half from the Home Depot Center which is where they will play.

That he is the next Tiger Woods of Football/Soccer for the USA. I think that Soccer will be a more popular sport again. I remember seeing the movie "Bend it like Beckham" and because of that movie it makes me want to see him play soccer when he comes to the States.

1) No way are they paying him that much. The figures are just being used for publicity.
2) The NASL folded because one big market team (Cosmos) started spending much more than the rest could afford to. It bought the whole league down. Hmmmmm
3) He'll fit in well in LA

Beckham was never the best player at either Man United or at Real Madrid. At United Giggs. Scholes and Keane were all better than him and at real Luis Figo, Zidane and Raul were all technically better than him. Beckham was never the best player at any of his teams he was just the best looking player.

David Beckham is great midfielder but his move to the UNITED STATES could be his biggest mistake in his football career.

Good player but overrated. As long as he attracts more fans to the MLS, things should be ok.
