It def. goes to the nursing facility to help cover their living costs (and to pad the administration's pocket). They will not hire anymore staff with that money .. I worked in nursing homes for years and they keep all their money but like $30 a month (if that much) families still have to provide clothing, personal things like radios, tv;s, etc. IF they have them.

In NYS when someone goes into a Skilled Nursing facility (SNF), they are only entitled to $35.00 in SSI if they have no other income. That money is used for Personal spending. Medicaid would then pay the stay at the SNF. If someone has both SSI and Social Security, Veterans benefits, pensions, etc., they would loose their SSI. IF they were discharged from the SNF with in a year, their SSI could be reinstated.

Those checks are still supposed to be received, mail or direct deposit into the checking or savings. The exception if the person has made a family member Executor of their affiars and have been claimed not mentally stable enough to conduct their own affairs, which the papers must be signed by an attorney who is handling the case, and of course notarized.

If the person in question has been declared mentally capable of taking care of their money, then there is no reason why they cannot receive their own checks.

If this is nursing facility , then i believe your check will go towards your care in this facility, to learn more , contact a social worker at any facility and they will give you specifics. Also contact social security .
