Yes, I have. I used to do wood burnings, (sketches) with wood and the sun and a magnifying glass. I didn't intentionally start a fire, but it happened. I was shading a little too much I guess. After that, when I would go camping, I always brought a magnifying glass, because I didn't have to worry about matches getting wet!!

Yes, just for entertainment, and to see if it worked. It's a really small magnifying glass - about the size of a dime, and I didn't think it would work... Set fire to a leaf in my driveway and had to stomp it out!

because when I was a kid there was no such thing as the internet, or personal computers for that matter... as a little boy it was about spending all day outside and amusing ourselves anyway we could. the magnifying lens was always a favorite.

Yes.On a sunny day we got dry leaves and paper and dried grass.Placed the lens where the sun shone straight to the pile of debris. We held it there and in minutes in started smoking then turned to flames.
