Single mom of a 2 year old and one on the way....WIC is awesome!!! It does not help completely but you do get alot of things like milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, peanut butter, Dry beans/peas and juice while you are pregnant and then when the baby is born, you get formula, infant cereal, and infant juice! It helps believe me, and no it is not wrong nor does it make you a bad person!!

It is not wrong to be on WIC it's important for your child and your own health, good nutritution is important and that is why the government has this program. Healthy babies cost less to our system in the long run.

Do you know there are many military families who recieve wic? Our enlisted families are paid so little they qualify, there are many military bases with wic offices. So, if it's a good enough program for our military families there is nothing wrong with it.

Don't put your pride above your health or your child's. It is wrong not to accept the help when your child is depending upon you. The first step in being a good parent is doing whatever you need to do to provide for your child, even if it means accepting some help along the way.

As a taxpayer I would much rather see the help go to someone like you who really needs it. It's the abuse people object to not those who truly need help, which is your case.

In addition seek child support, this guy should not get away with this. I'm sorry you've been hurt.

That is me.... And yes I am on WIC. I have a full time job, and now that I have had the baby I have picked up a VERY part time job for xtra money. I felt weird about it at first when I was prego but it helped. I had a very balanced diet because of Wic's help. If you are not taking advantage of it and you actually need it. I would say don't be ashamed because you will be thankful you have it! You and your baby will benefit from it, you will both be healthier. As an example my son is only 3 months and I was unable to keep up breast feeding for this long so I now go through $140 worth of formula and wic pay $98 of that. With the cost of everything else that is a hugh help. I don't have anyone to lean on it is just me and my lil one. I have to budget and trust me I need it! Please if you feel like you need it go get it don't be ashamed, people who judge you are the ones who have NO CLUE what it is like to be alone raising a child. It is a responsible decision to do it! Good luck I really hope this helps! I know how you feel and I wish you the best!

I can relate to this question. I was pregnant , unwed,no money and the father also split. I went on WIC. It helped me sooo much. Formula is expensive. Especially when you don't have a job and your a single mother. I think you should go on it. It's not like welfare(which isn't bad either) some people think it is. I had it till my son was five years old. They give you milk, baby cereal, formula, a lot.. it helps. there is nothing wrong with it...

WIC is wonderful!! When I had my daughter, my then-boyfriend and I were both part time college students (also working full time, crummy jobs) and pretty broke, and WIC really helped. We didn't get money because we just needed a little help, but we got food vouchers. While you're pregnant, you can get lots of nutritious foods, and after you have the baby, you can get baby cereal and formula, among other things. And I thought the WIC people were so nice--they didn't make us feel like we were bad people because we didn't have much money. Plus they help out with lots of educational stuff during your pregnancy and how to care for the baby afterwards. I'd never heard of WIC but a co-worker recommended it to me, and I'm so glad--WIC really helped us through a tough part of our lives. My daughter is now six, and things are much better in my life now financially, and I would recommend WIC to any soon-to-be-mom who needs it. Call and make an appointment as soon as you can--they're wonderful and you'll be glad you did. WIC is made for someone in your situation. Good luck--being a mom can be hard and frustrating but it's so worth it all!! Take care of yourself and your baby!! :)

Sweetie, don't listen to anyone who says negative things about you. Some people are just mean. The important thing is you wanting to the best for your child and yourself. WIC is there for your particular situation. You should use it. When you start working, and get on your feet, you can stop WIC if you feel bad about using it. I used it and I was married. Not only do you get financial help, but you will also be set up with a nutritionist. They will tell you what the better foods are to eat during pregnancy and the best foods for your baby.

The best thing to do is get WIC and any other help from the state like medicaid for you and baby and maybe food stamps, also to enroll in school when you have a child you can get a lot of paid programs that will put you through school. Take advantage while you can also don't be ashamed to utilize any of those resources thats what their there for. Also the section 8 housing and other programs. You can get state paid daycare and everything. And kick that Jerks butt if possible, he needs to pay child support! Good Luck

There is 100% Nothing Wrong With Being on WIC! You are pregnant-everything you, the mom eats, drinks, takes in any way into your body-baby gets first, you get leftovers. Of course, please do go on WIC As Soon As Possible!
The amount of foods you will get will really help, and assist in keeping you and the baby healthy. Try for TANF (welfare) and see if they have the first year program for helping keep Mom and baby healthy. Also, if/when you go on welfare, you should get medical coupon each month to get you and baby to the doctor. Also, the guy split, if you know where he is-when the time comes, get a paternity test (DSHS will help on that), and get child support-while on welfare, the monies will go from him to DSHS but once you get on your feet, and get a job, and off welfare, you will receive the child support. Now, if you decide to give the baby up for adoption-it can be a hard, but good decision. If you choose to keep your baby-enjoy! Take care.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with wic. Its not welfare or anything, it is specifically designed to help keep pregnant and breast feeding women healthy and to give children a great start in life. If it makes you feel better. They have WIC Overseas for military personal overseas, and they are constantly pushing it at you. I am pregnant and have a 2 year old. Wic saves us over $150 a mo. If you qualify get it girl!!!

Go on WIC and Medicaid. I'm pregnant and we're still together and I'm still going on both. There both good programs, and if you think about if you are working or have been working you pay taxes and some of that tax money goes to those programs.

I've even seen people with good jobs and insurance on WIC. It's just another way of insuring healthier babies.

Nothing wrong with it at all hun. I had to get WIC when I found out I was pregnant..Its very helpful. I didn't know anything about babies and now Ive taken classes through them to help me know more about being a mom. Plus formula is expensive and you will need all the help you can get once that baby gets here. Good Luck and God Bless
