Recently my ex informed me that he wants to give up parental rights to his unborn child because he doesn't want to have to pay child support. He says that I will use the money for things that I want and not for the baby which is completely untrue.
Is that possible in Pennsylvania? I tried to search for it online and I got nowhere... please help, I am already a single mom of a 2 year old and I can't afford for him not to pay child support. And abortion and adoption are completely out of the question!!!!

well the honor system doesnt work, thats for sure, thats why they have made all of these strict state/federal child support laws.

i dont think he can just sign away his responsibility... but contact a local Legal Aid Office to check. look in your phone book, call the county court clerks office or your states Bar Assoc for the number.

maybe the county child support division could answer the question too, but i dont know if they would be willing to. social services may know too.

in any case, here are some links that may help. just click on your state and find the section you need. one is a CS calculator. the last few are to help you.

He cannot sign off on his rights without your consent, and the state won't even do anything until the child is born. You will have to wait until the baby is here and domestic relations will help you order a paternity test. My boyfriends ex got pregnant to him on purpose then broke up with him and always schedules her visits when he's working so he's never met his 13 month old baby girl but has to pay child support, so I know a little about it anyways :) Good luck!

If you can't afford for him not to pay child support, you shouldn't have gotten into this position.

You need to contact the state and ask for public assistance, Dept of women and children.
He will need to take a paternity test.

Yes, at least it was years ago. My Dad gave up his rights to me. You will be better off without him. And so will your baby. PA has lots of programs for single Moms. Best wishes
