the new spanish film "Pan's Labrynth" accomplishes everything 'the Harry Potter' films , 'Lord of The Rings' and 'Narnia' failed to be.
"Pan's Labrynth" evokes wonder, magic, intrigue, fascination, horror and and is inspired film making.
I consistanlty saw none of those things in "Harry Potter", "Lord of The Rings" and "Narnia"
Agree or disagree? why?

i held back in detailing my disgust with those three films!! take away the bones that the authors provided and there was nothing to be with - the filmmakers just road on their story's coat tails, Narnia was obviously the worst, followed closely by the remarkably bland Potter and lastly the wasteful over rated Rings

for me the dead give away in the "Rings" failure is , if you watch it for this you will that everytime the story called for some majesty and wonder - the filmmakers fell back to cutting to the mountains and blasted classical music to steal from thier inherant greatness ( that is not filmmaking, they knew how to create a large echoing film set but not how to create metaphor and poetry and love and horror....

Dude! You are talking to yourself man! I LOVE IT!!!!
I have never watched the Harry Potter movies only Narnia and it was pretty good but reading the book as a kid was much better considering that you make your own ideas about how everything looked but they did a pretty good job of it.
I prefer House of 1000 corpses and the Devil's Rejects!
Sheri Moon is so hot!

I love Harry Potter and the Lord of The Rings. I tried to read Narnia but it bored so it's between Harry Potter and the Lord of The Rings . So,Harry Potter.Someone people might disagree with me but the first few books were suitable for children but around the 3rd one Harry began to mature and his problems were much worse.Harry matured through the story while in the LoTR the characters stayed the same.Harry Potter is well written but Tolkien created a whole fantasy world, with different races and languages. Rowling was inspired by Tolkien but both stories are completely different. So I am not going to drag this on.The Lord of The Rings is far more superior than Harry Potter,Tolkien was a genius.Although I do believe that Harry Potter is going to be counted as classic in a couple of years.

Disagree because most people would agree that Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are among those movies that we can watch over and over again without getting bored. They'll be classics for future generations. And regarding Narnia, I think lets not make a hasty judgment. After all, it has only been one movie.
Peace and Love.

I totally disagree. I have issues with the Potter movies, but not because of how they present the material from the books, and I do enjoy them. Pan's Labrynth was not based on previously published material and therefore does not have anything to live up to. All of the movies you were disappointed with are based on books that I am assuming you enjoyed immensely. It is very difficult to read a book, then go see the movie and be thrilled by what you see when you have a preconceived notion of what you expect going in. You have a right to your opinions, but let's at least compare apples to apples. You cannot compare movies that are based on books to a movie that was taken from an original screenplay. As far as the panning to mountains you refer to, blame David Lean.

I have not seen Pan's Labrynth but none of the film synopses that I have read anywhere even remotely described it as being a fantasy film ala LOTR et al. Thus I can't honestly compare or contrast them.
Everyone takes away something different from a film, so if you were not pleased with any of the above, that's your right. No one is required to enjoy the same things. That said, I enjoyed all three films mentioned above.

"Harry Potter" "Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "Lord of the Rings" are based on books. Books which children are encouraged to read. "Pan's Labyrinth" is a rated R dark fairy tale and it's own creation.
It's like comparing apples to oranges. However, if you like the look of Pan's Labyrinth butt want something more family orientated you could try Neil Gaimen's "Mirrormask"
