I get a good signal form the IP Address but I can't connect!?

I get a very good singal from my ISP but for some reason It wont connect, If I am next to the router I can get the internet, If I go 20 feet away form the router I get a good singal but It wont connect.
What can I do about It to connect.
My wireless card goes 40 feet....

make and model of both the wireless router and the PC card

when there is a lot of interference in the frequency spectrum used by wireless devices the Bit Error Rate (BER) increases. once the BER reaches it's maximum limit it will no longer connect
