if it is a dog it has to be under 15 lbs and i want a girl and a mixed breed and if a cat i want a small one mixed breed mabey older or mabey a kitten a girl mmixed breed i have to save one from the shelter i dont know reall what to do to prep if you can give me some tips i would love it thanks!!!! ; )

It's great you want to adopt from a shelter -it's a great way to go and you'll save a life. First though, you should decide whether you want a cat or a dog. If you are gone from home a lot, cat will do better with lots of absences. Do a little research on yahoo pets and petfinder.com and other websites to learn what it takes to be a good pet owner for each species. Petfinder can help you shop the shelters for pets in your area for specific animals you might be interested in - it helps because you can find a few candidates up front without going to the shelter and getting overwhelmed and falling in love with them all at once.

The best thing to do is to go to your nearest SPCA or animal shelter. A lot of the animals there end up being put down because people have abandoned them. So you will not only be adopting an animal or also giving it life.
Understand though once you adopted a puppy/kitten, its you responsibility to look after. Most people don't realise that and end up abandoning their pets, a very cruel thing to do.

Call or go to you nearby Animal Shelter or Humane Society. They have alot to choose from. These animals need a chance. And you will probably find exactly whay toy want!! Good luck.

You said the magic words adopt from a shelter just go to the shelter and see whats there and maybe one will choose you. You may have to make more than one trip to find that special little animal that is supposed to be yours, but you'll find her just make sure you get her spayed if she isn't already. GOOD-LUCK!

You should go to your local PetCo or PetSmart, I'm pretty sure they're everywhere. If you want to preview the pets, search the humane society website; (enter it on google and go to the website) it has all of the pets that are up for sale.

when you go to the shelter, ask them all your questions, they'll be happy to help.
BUT they will show you the food your animal is on, and what vet it goes to and make you feel like your have to keep these up. YOU DON'T. you can choose these things if you want to.

get a miniature raterrior/ chiwawa (sp). They're the best! they're so playful and exiting. They LOVE to play with toys and go on walks. They are really cuddly too! I don't know about the cat b/c I'm allergic! I hope i helped you! and good luck finding the perfect pet!

well, go to the shelter and they will tell you how to adopt one. other than that get some food, food dish, water dish, toys, treats, one of them mattress looking things dogs and cats sleep on, litter box if it's a cat, collar, leash, scratching post (for cat), pooper scooper, and possibly them doggy tags that have the animals name and your address on them in case they get lost.
