New York University's school of journalism, or Columbia's school of journalism?

I think its a toss up. Both jorunalism schools are equally good. You should apply to both of them.

NYU is a great university -- but Columbia's J-School is the best in the world.

I have never heard about thoe universities you name, but the university that is going to be better for you is the one that best fit your needs. What makes a good university is not the reputation, is what you have to offer to that university. What I mean if you are going to be a good student, you will perform your best anywhere even in a community college.
