I'm a great fan of the watch books, I think Sam Vimes is one of the best characters Terry Pratchett has written. I still read the watch series from time to time, and although I do like the new characters that are introduced my favourites are always the original three: Vimes, Nobby and Colon. Not sure I have a favourite book overall, but I do read 'Jingo' more than the others and have recently read 'Monsterous Regiment' and 'Thud' a couple of times back-to-back.

Although I mostly read Terry Pratchett purely for the entertainment I do like the parallels he draws between this world and the discworld, whether it's in a jokey way ('Moving Pictures' for its depiction of Hollywood) or when making a more serious point. I think that's why I like reading 'Jingo', and also 'Thud' is another along the same lines, Pratchett is making some valid comments about racism, war and the pointlessness of each.

Although the watch books are my favourite, I don't think there is any book or series of books I actually dislike. In each series there is always a strong character who 'makes' the series, like Granny Weatherwax in the witches books or Rincewind in the wizards books; these characters are always extremely well-written, entertaining and also develop well throughout the books. Of all the central characters though Sam Vimes has to be my favourite, I can empathise with his rather jaded view of the world and love the way he deals with idiots and assassins!

If you're looking for a good book purely from an entertainment point of view, I'd really recommend 'Moving Pictures' or 'Soul Music'. These books are the first two I ever read from the Discworld series and they still make me laugh out loud. The wizard books in general tend to have more of a pure comedy element running through them and these two are among the funniest.

In terms of sets, I reckon either the ones about the Witches, or the ones about Death, particularly Mort and the Hogfather. Soul Music was a great book too. Oh they're all fabulous! I love the way Death speaks LIKE THIS!

Nightwatch. I always think that Guards! Guards! is the best book to get anyone started with if you're trying to encourage them to read Pratchett but Nightwatch is simply amazing. You get to see the classic members of the watch before they became as they are now. Nobby before he was even a watchman, a young Sam Vimes, and even Vetinari when he was an assassin. It's just so good!

My favorite set is definitely the Watch one. It is, on average, a bit darker and not as non-stop funny as some of his other stuff, but it definitely scores the highest in just-plain-coolness points. AND it has Vimes and Vetinari, who are by far the most interesting and lovable of Pratchett's characters.

My other favorites are, in no particular order: Going Postal, Small Gods and The Truth.

In my opinion, The Truth. fantabulously funny, with a rather sinister heap of characters on the villains side. Going Postal comes in a close second.

I rather like the single ones, but then, the Watch do feature in those, and the Watch rocks. As far as sets go, I think that they're pretty even. They're all fantastic.

And the Bromeliad trilogy rocks.

Masquerade is pretty good and I love Greebo in it but then again they're all pretty good. I love all of the Tiffany Aching ones: The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky and The Wintersmith. Choosing just one is pretty hard.

Of course the best characters are always the inanimate objects from the trunk to Horace the cheese, you just gotta love them

I like the Guards books, also the Death series. I'm not keen on the Witches,or Rincewind series-don't find them as funny. My fave of his are;Hogfather,Feet Of Clay and Jingo.

any of his books are hilarious!! But I've noticed that most of the people in my family like the death books the best.... soul music especially.. they're just soooo funny!! oh, and the tiffany aching adventures are good too, although a little more juvenile.
