Even the thought of being a top turns me off, but my bf seems to want to be a bottom. Can a bottom really learn how to become a top, realistically speaking?

My understanding of it is that it's a state of mind. Bottoms usually think of themselves as the less dominant partner. They also tend to be the more feminine type and think of themselves as playing the female role. Tops tends to be more 'macho' and full of testosterone. Tops are definitely dominant and want to be the ones in control.
If you're bf wants to be a bottom, maybe he's just wanting to experiment for a change of perspective. This could spice up your love life a bit through role-play. I wouldn't be overly-alarmed about it. If it makes you uncomfy, then let your partner know.

You can learn to be a top, yes, but whether or not you enjoy being the top is more of the question. Sex is a way for you to express your love for your bf, and if you dont enjoy it, it's kind of hard to express that. If you are both bottoms, maybe you can trade-off being top? Also oral works for two bottoms a lot as well I've heard.

Yes you can learn anything that can be learned if you try and want to learn it. It's good to be versatile in bed, so learn and have fun doing it. It will probably feel awkward at first if you aren't usually the top but you will get past it! Just have fun with it!

Most guys who enjoy anal sex are somewhat versatile and even total tops or total bottoms can and do change over time.

I'm sure it's possible. But speaking as a strict bottom myself (both sexually and more importantly, emotionally), I just can't picture myself being the "husband."

Either that, or you may need to find somebody who will want what you want?
