In 2004 the Tampa Bay Lightning won the cup. Due to a lockout by the NHL there was no hockey played in 2005. After much negotiation and claims of foul from both sides an agreement was reached and play resumed in 2006. Contrary to what a previous answer claimed, the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in 2006. The game improved tremendously after the lockout due to rule changes that created a game with more excitement and free flow.

there was a players strike over Wages during the 2004-2005 season. No games were played, and the Stanley cup was not awarded.

No one won the Stanley Cup that year, the league was locked out due to labor issues/contract issues...stupid things of that nature.

There was a lock out during the 2005 season, so there was no winner.

It was undeclared because the NHL players went on strike. There was no season that year, thus no champion.

No one, there was a lock out because of salary caps, I think.
Now they have to live on only 15 million a year-boo hoo.
