They're filled with helium. The color of the balloon doesn't matter. Believe me, I've launched thousands of weather balloons (they're almost all a puke-yellow color).

As the balloons are filled with light gases like helium and hydrogen ,it is the bouyancy that plays the important role in lifting the balloon.Even if you assume that black colour balloon will absorb more heat that will be compensated by the cold temperature above. It is well known that temperature drop as you go up.That is why hill stations are colder. Hence colour of the balloon plays a negligible part in lifting the balloon.

I think black. White reflects light, while black absorbs it. Thus, the black balloon will heat up faster than the white one, and the helium gas will expand. This lowers the density of the balloon's contents, making it rise faster.

BLACK if the balloon will not explode first, because black absorbs all colors of the rays, and will heat faster which lowers the density, therefore will rise faster. Then the yellow because it will absorb the yellow rays, and last one is white which reflects all the rays.

Black.
And this would be a great science experiment for kids, wouldn't it?
The affect of solar heating would be slight, so good observation methods would have to be used to handle the heights, and measurement of the gas into the balloons would have to be well metered.
Hey MythBusters---you listening?

Black. The balloon will absorb sunlight, heating the helium inside; it will expand, and increase its lift somewhat.

wedding ceremony color concern Brown&Yellow (Sunflowers) or Black/White/Lavender? I truly were making plans my wedding ceremony to be held October 2009 for form of a month now.I notwithstanding i grow to be set on my hues/subject and had a lot of recommendations i grow to be going to apply sunflowers with a chocolate and yellow united states rustic subject. I truly have even planted my own sunflowers to be sure what style i'd favor to apply. i grow to be going to apply terra cotta pots tied with some hemp and a bow and customized sunflower seed packets as favors Now my feiance (who has determined he dosen't favor to provide a lot enter) has informed me that he thinks lavender is the superb for a wedding ceremony color, and that i'd favor to comprise his recommendations into the marriage, evidently. So now I truly ought to decide, the origional borwn/yellow or the hot theory of black/white/lavender (which may be more suitable state-of-the-paintings and present day than the rustic/rustic theory.) does everybody have some images/recommendations/reviews for both to help in this decision???

Black. It absorbs more heat, and that will cause more heat, will have more expansion, will result in more pressure diff, and will have more height of travel, until internal and external pressure reach the same.
