I have a mobile broadband connection with Cingular which is also my mobile phone service provider.

Sprint and Verizon also provide mobile broadband.

bit_4 is correct. For instance, your hotel may have their own network that you can use. The hotel will give you the necessary password (on a secured network) to allow you to use the internet, probably adding the cost to your bill. Enquire with the airline company on using the plane's network. There are also open networks, known as Hotspots. Go into a MacDonald's and you can use their open network (provided you are eating there). Beware though, before using any network (free or otherwise) check with the provider of the network that you are using their network, and not some false network. As shown on UK TV, recently, it is possible for someone sitting nearby to capture your laptop by using special software on their laptop to override the premise's network. If this happens, the hacker, by using an exact (fake) copy of the premise's webpage, will be able to see everything you send over your laptop, banking passwords, etc. So do be careful. The same advice goes if using an Internet Café - make sure you are using the correct network!

If your computer does not have wireless access then you'd want to purchase a wireless card. This will allow you to access the internet from hotels or airports with wireless access. You'll also want to purchase an ethernet cable (I assume your computer has an ethernet connection built into your computer). This will allow you to plug in the cable to hotel and/or airport access.
