There was a Snickers commercial just like this a few years ago, with a fat goalie fitting right into the goal.

first of all its very hard to find a person fat enough to take up an entire hockey net and second of all if there is a person that fat and willing to do it do you really think that he'd have the ability to stand on a pair of ice hockey skates i doubt that very much and also a hockey game isnt 10mins long he'd be standing in the net for at least an hour throughout the whole game 20mins per period and have you ever seen a fat guy that big standing on his feet for that long i dont think so so the answer to your question is b/c its a bad idea no one wants some fat slob in net giving up goals especially when there is some extremly great athletes out there playing goalie in hockey and plus its much more entertaining when a goalie dives across the net and makes a great glove save the only time you'll see a fat guy do that is for a cheese burger ( no offence to fat guys, just stay out of the nets!)

Wow a whole week with out this question being asked, I'm impressed. The fact is the goal is 4 ft tall by 6ft wide. Even the largest Sumo wrestler in the world is neither 4ft or 6ft wide. Goalie is about reflex and reactio not being a big fat guy. Most top tier goalies are actually tall and slender so that they are flexible and have outstanding reflexes.

A fat guy wouldn't last 10 minutes in goal. After he tired out in about 5 minutes or less the opposing team would fill the net. A goaltender must be athletic and in very good physical condition. He must go down and get up fast. A fat guy woulld go down and never get up in time to stop the puck. A fat guy couldn't move very fast. Goalies must be very quick. The goal crease area is still not small enough for a fat guy to fully cover. Fat guy........not.

What do you think this is? It's not American football, it's a game of skill. Although those are similar to street hockey rules where frequently the fattest or youngest end up in net. (I spent time in net like that.)
The net is 6 feet wide and 4 feet high! A goalie needs to have quick reflexes, agility and flexibility. All those come before size to block the net. AND they have to be able to skate. They have to skate fast enough to stop a shoot in behind the net, and to skate to the bench quickly for an extra attacker.

a big fat guy wouldnt do anything!! im a girl goalie and trust me there has to be movement no guy is fat enough to block the whole net so when you get the fast skaters that can diek theres no way im in good shape and when i try to stop them i have to be fast theres no way a fat guy could do it. if a goalie couldnt go down in the butterfly or do the two pad stack forget theres no way like impossible sorry but it would never work!

Because the fat guy would still have to move around and since he's not exactly fit, he'd have a lot of trouble moving quickly. According to your logic, you' need a guy who's around six feet WIDE. Even the fattest man on the Guiness record books isn't that wide.

one could not block it totally thus one would have to be able to move. this movement would consist of up/downs also to cover the puck to which he would have to have agility. Also the goalie is used alot to hadle the puck so one would have to be again very practised and agile.

Becauase even if you do that there will still be small creases that NHL forwards will hit pretty easily. They just wouldnt be mobile enough.
