I would think that your friend could possibly be fired. Even if the person she slapped deserved it, your friend assaulted her. They obviously cannot be in the same workplace anymore. The only other thing I see is a suspension. I guess it really hinges on whether the boss is going to listen to the entire story and take that into consideration.

The girl who was slapped can file for harrasment and depending on the situation may be able to file for harrasment and your friend can be charged, if it was serious although I doubt it was. And depending on the girls behaviour you friend may be able to claim provocation which is a defense in court where the accused ie your friend can say that her actions were caused by the other woman because she was so angry she didnt realize what she had done until after.

they can fire her right then and there.
they can go through discipline action give verbal warnings written and if that fails to stop her fire her.
hitting someone else is cause for the company to fire on the spot no warnings at all . they may also skip steps in discipline line and keep her on but move to no more warning next time out .
that's is it
they could require her to seek help for the behavior but that is more a large company kind of thing.

I think she can get fired. Something similar happened at my workplace two years ago, except that the "offender" insulted and used foul language against the other. The other woman didn't get fired because, even if she had been provoking the "offender", she didn´t start the fight.

well it depends
some company will just leave it to both of them if it is personal
but if your friend slap someone that have good relationship with her superior or maybe have a higher designation then your friend
she might be in big trouble of getting a disciplinary form

She will likely be fired, but it depends on the policy set by the employer. She would be fired if she worked for me. There is no excuse for that in the workplace. BTW, depending on the circumstance, the other girl might get fired, too. Your friend needs to learn to control her temper.

She could lose her job, for not being able to control her temper. The company might feel that she is a threat to the other employees.

I know you aren't from the US but I am. In the US, loosing your job would be the least of your worries. You could get (and probably would get) arrested. That is considered assault and battery. Frankly, no matter what that girl did or said, your friend sounds unstable.

Well Its depends on what the girl did to make him slap her... Was she being unusual or was the man taking it out on the woman?
