Oh yeah,it hurts. Even with an epidural to help with the contractions, you still feel the actual birth because they trun off the pain meds. You also can still feel something, though not as bad with the pain meds. And then you have to think about after the birth. If you happen to tear down there, ohhhh that really hurts and their is nothing that you can take to get rid of that pain. Also the contractions that you have to get your uterus back to its origional size...that also hurts. They whole experience is painful...but sooooooo worth it. Can't pass it up just because it is going to be painful... Haven't you ever heard of "no pain, no gain"?

Painful? My opinion yes. Tolerable? Yes! Try to stear clear of the horror stories. Review some coping techniques. Think about how you deal with any kind of pain. The main thing is to relax. The uterus is a muscle if you tense up during the contraction its going to hurt more. Modern medicine does help. Though sometimes it causes more problems. An epidural can slow down your labor when given too soon. It can sometimes make you too numb, and your pushing may be ineffective. Take a childbirth class. Inform yourself in childbirth and all your choices. Keep an open mind but also remember to trust your body!
Congrats and Good Luck!
If you ask me the IV hurt!

Yes it will hurt. If you choose to get an epidural, it will help but you will still feel a lot of pressure. A C-section is only if you are unable to deliver naturally or if the baby is in distress. Personally, I think that women should get local pain relief (not an epidural) like Demerol, which will wear off quicker after child birth so you can be alert to enjoy the baby and REMEMBER those precious first hours. Going totally natural with no pain meds is OK but you won't get a bigger mother's day card for suffering through it. Good luck and Congrats!

Childbirth is very painful. Even with "modern medicine". The most common pain relief during childbirth is an epidural, but most doctors don't like to have that administered until you are 6-7 cm dilated. That means you go through most of labor without pain relief. There aren't any other pain relievers that are completely safe for the baby, so you might as well expect to be in pain. That is just natural. Don't plan on getting pregnant until you are very sure you can handle the pain as well as the lifelong, 24/7 commitment of being a parent.
Childbirth is a very small part of that commitment, it's just the first part and generally thought of as scary. The scary part to me is being totally responsible for another life for as long as you live. You don't get breaks, you don't get paid, and you can't just decide you don't want to do it anymore without hurting an innocent child terribly.
Don't get pregnant until you know yourself very well, the father very well, and make sure your life is stable. Make sure you won't have to depend on someone else for any support, because you won't get it. Don't think twice, think 300 times!

It's very painful even without complications. It is a woman's curse and a blessing. When the time comes you will do whatever it takes to bring forth the child and you won't care. Don't scare yourself to death with what it might feel like because nothing short of giving birth can ever describe all of the horrible and wonderful feelings that happen from one moment to the next during childbirth.
Even with modern technology the best you can hope for is to mask the pain enough to make it endurable but it is definitely not avoidable.

Of course labor pains hurt. Contractions feel like everything from the top of my uterus to my rectum was paralyzed with undescribable pain. With my first child I had an epidural at 4cm and couldn't feel a thing all with pushing, crowning, etc. With my second I went from 4cm to 10cm in 25 minutes so there was no time for an epidural and I felt everything. I only pushed for a minute or two so it wasn't that bad. Some people say even though they have an epidural they still feel pain and pressure, but I couldn't feel a thing.

You are going to have some pain. When you first start having contractions, they won't be terribly painful. I call them "painful but bearable." They will hurt but you'll be able to deal with it. As they get stronger and closer together, it gets very painful. Then you go to the hospital and they will check your cervix and see how far dilated you are. If they do determine that you are in real labor and ready to get admitted to the hospital, they will ask you if you want an epidural. If you are in a good hospital, the anesthesiologist will get ready fast and give you the epidural. Actually getting the epidural takes about 5 minutes. Once you have it, it will take only another 5 minutes and you will feel NOTHING. It'll be a huge relief. So, to answer you question, it's painful in the beginning, but once you get the epidural you will feel nothing. Your baby will come out with you feeling no pain.

It definatly can be... Even with all the medications out today, you still have to go throuugh the pain of the first parts of labor, docs usually wont give you meds untill active labor... when you get ready to push the baby out... no matter what you do, pregnancy and child birth wont be a compleat walk in the park, there will definentally be discomforts. Hope it helped.

It's different for everyone. I had my son all natural about a week ago. I was afraid of it hurting really bad, but contractions felt like cramps and a small back ache that didn't go away. The actual birth itself didn't really hurt at all and I watched everything through the mirror. I was just really tired because I hadn't slept in over 24 hours. I arrived at the hospital at 5am and had him at 7:55am. It was very fast and not very painful. I know this sounds crazy, but like I said it's different for everyone. Depends on your pain tolerance. You just have to relax! Good Luck!!

yes it hurts but you can get an epidural it numbs you from chest down but when it comes down to pushing you will feel pressure and sharp pains with the urge to push but by then you will be to busy pushing to notice the pain. Once the baby comes out you wont think labor was that bad. Good luck with your delivery and congrats on your baby. P.S. dont forget to breathe and have something with you to focus on when everyone else around you is getting on your nerves just zone out.
