The band takes it's name from the saying "motley crew" which is a term for a mismatched or ragtag group. The word motley means many colours combined. A motley crew was probably a reference to sailing ships comprised of crewmembers of different races and nationalities. Nowadays it is a somewhat uncomplimentary term used to describe any diverse or mismatched group brought together.

it's the name of a metal band from the 80's who are still around today. "motley" means a various assortment of things/people and "crue" is a play on "crew," as in a gang, group of friends, etc. they added the dots to above the "m" in motley and the "u" in the crue because they were inspired by jagermeister.

Motley is a collection containing a variety of sorts of things.
I'm sure Crue is just a phonetic spelling of crew, and a crew can be interpreted as a group working together.
I suspect the band just came up with a `catchy' name for a disparate group of people who make noise, er music, together.

haha Mick Mars thought of the name...he walked into a rehearsal with an old band before Motley Crue and he said "this is Motley looking Crue" and from that moment on, he knew he would someday be in a band and name them Motley Crue.

It doesn't have an actual meaning. It's just the name of a metal band. You could try reading some biographies of them to see where they came up with that name though.
