Mainly because we have been taught for centuries to believe that we we're the breadwinners in the family. We we're the decision makers, the ones that got the highest paying jobs, the promotions, etc. etc. Men have always been viewed as the strong within society.Today, life is different in many ways and men have had to adapt to changes within our country. Maybe the responsibility put upon us centuries ago, has caused some to have a huge sense of pride. I could be wrong,,,,,,,but then to think of it,,,I'm a man, so I doubt I am. LOL

True men don't need to have pride.Pride is something to cover up there insecurities.or they just don't have any idea about any other way of acting.perhaps there fathers were that way.in the bible it says not to be proud be glad.I am not bragging but I am a true man who doesn't need to prove a thing to anyone.I am glad about some things. but being prideful is almost a sin.men don't need to be any way then just the way they are.no pride. no. I am better. no. hey I can do this better then you .kind of stuff.I have never been that way so I don't know why some men do that.course I am 6ft.8" 320 lbs and 16eeee feet so I don't need to prove much physically now do I.and I have a 170s IQ.and don't need to prove much to anyone intellectually , I state facts not prideful words. but some men do.and that's OK also.some men just need to be that way.so let them.its a free country.were all different. Its a way to get off on life for some men. and women.theirs so many things people have done where if they were not prideful they wouldn't have done them.probably some wonderful things.also so much horrific things. and by the way I still open doors for the Lady's.dear feminist you.Peace.

Are you talking about the pride of accomplishment or about stubborn, self-righteous pride? There is a vast difference. I'll assume you mean the latter, based on your follow-up line. I would offer that boys are brought up to be 'macho', and not to cry, not to express their true emotions. As such, they are not nearly as well equipped as women in dealing with their emotions. And in essence, this attitude teaches them to deny truth. I think that it is not a stretch to say that pride is ultimately a denial of truth. One is not able - as in capable, as opposed to willing - to acknowledge or admit the error of their actions; possibly not even able to really 'see' it at all. They refuse to look at their actions, which is really to look at themselves, because they have been taught NOT to do so since childhood. So, when you confront them, they just turn it back on others. Their 'pride' won't let them admit wrong. Again, in essence, they perhaps just don't know how to.

But that's just conjecture on my part. I personally have no problem looking inward and thus no problem apologizing when clearly in the wrong.

I think it is in there nature. animal nature. It runs deep in there mentalities. Thank god for that though. A man without pride puts no effort in his daily activities and lifestyles. A man with is usually haunted if he is not living up to his expectations of what he should be. That being said, I think they go to far sometimes...My boyfriend won't eat unless he has bought it, he'd rather go hungry because he is so prideful. To me this is silly, why starve when ppl are offering to feed you no questions asked? But so it goes, and that pride pushes him daily to succeed so I guess it's necessary
