Both unions are COMBINED in Texas as "SAG/AFTRA." If you want to join both at the same time.

It don't exactly work that way and based on what you said it doesn't sound like you have much of a resume, which means you don't know what you're doing.

Acting is ground level up unless you have a WEALTHY FAMILY or they are in show biz.

Probably the best place to start is all the local little theaters, see if they will take you on as a voullenteer or apprentice. Usually doing ticket sales, ushering, then you move to props. Of course you can try out for each play they do.

After a while you'll actually get a resume and maybe even get paid.

For movies and TV, you really need to be in LA, Toronto, NYC and get in with the non-union Extra agencies and start doing atmosphere roles and then try and get SAG elibigible.

Understand once you go SAG you can't work non-union.

Try out for small movies that are made non-union while you do big movie extra work.

You need good transporation and a throw away job for the first year or so. If you play your cards right you can make $20K a year doing extra work.

Also understand the SAG card is now about $1,500 in a single payment, certified check or money order.

Send it everywhere. By Mail and Email, Create yourself a myspace and make is detailed including your goals and how your going on about to achieve it... When sending your Headshot and Pictures and Resume include an essay extra about yourself and why your sending them mail. Send it to advertising places, Agency's, Studio's, Any directory you can get your hands on, send it there. Start looking for acting and modeling work in the newspaper. Dont take any job, Keep your pride... but continue trying...
