The shuffle says it holds 240 songs on the Apple website. But it is 1 gig, so it should hold more like 480 songs. The Nano on the Apple site says it will hold 2,000 songs and it comes in 2 gig, 4 gig and 8 gigs.
Basically, as a rule of thumb, just multiply the amount of gigs times 480 and you have about how many songs the MP3 player will hold.

The difference is that on the Nano you would be able to choose a song to listen to using the LCD display, but W/the shuffle you have to skip through songs to find the one you're looking for.
