Actually it is HIM without the dots in between. The bands name was His Imperial Majesty but being from Finland most people could not pronounce it so they just changed it to HIM. When their album was released here in the states it was released under the name HER because an American Band already had rights to the name HIM.
As far as what it means it was said to be a death metal joke. And it was a protest to Haile Selassie's rastafarian religion, he used to be called His Imperial Majesty.
