Pros:
-Since the iPod is so popular, finding accesories is almost too easy.
-The iPod is very user-friendly, as is iTunes, the program you use to sync your music, videos, etc. to your iPod.
-You can play the games availible through the iTunes Music Store on an iPod Video, which you cannot on an iPod Nano or an iPod Shuffle.
-The iPod Video plays video.
-There is pracitical infinite storage, assuming you are the person who has not amassed a large music library yet.

Cons:
-If you are planning on exercising with your iPod Video, it will skip because it stores its music on a hard-drive. iPod Nanos and Shuffles use flash memory which cannot skip. Also, the Nike+iPod thingy is only compatible with the iPod Nano.
-Refurbished iPod Photos are availible on http://www.apple.com/ for only sixty dollars. I believe they are the thirty gigabyte models.
-The scratching on an iPod is pretty not awesome. However, suck it up and buy a protective film for it like I did. Or you can buy a hard case and when that becomes so scratched, the screen is obscured, then you can buy another one.
-The iPhone is coming out soon. http://www.apple.com/iPhone

All in all, still think that the iPod is the best MP3 Player on the market. In making your final decision, size should play a major role. Also, some don't find the video option necessary. It's nice, but it isn't necessary. Whatever MP3 Player you get, I would suggest it be an iPod of some sort.

Pros and cons versus what, exactly? I know it's supposed to have longer battery life than the original 5G, and the fat one got bumped from 60GB to 80GB. I think the screen can be set brighter (which matters not to me since I have my brightness turned down to 10-20%, with the 2-second timer) and they're definitely $50 cheaper at MSRP. Aside from that, they shouldn't be any different than the original 5G with a quick firmware update and a download of iTunes 7.

Versus the Nano, the 80GB is by far the most cost effective by capacity, the 30GB is the safest bet for people with moderately large music collections, they both have shorter battery life on the whole than a Nano, they're more prone to damage by being dropped, they still have the scratch-magnet acrylic shield (if you buy one, have some sort of screen cover sitting ready before you open the iPod box), but they're less likely to get misplaced.
