Based on the specific car you have, you should find a forum about your specif car and talk to other owners of your car. chances are many people will have similar problems with their car and there will be easy fixes availible. It is best to talk to someone who knows the specif car, and not just generally about all cars.

For examlpe, Dodge Neons have neons.org, where you can find, fix and diagonse any issue with a Neon because someone has had the issue before and someone has figured out how to fix it.

Not all cars are the same, thats why I say find a forum specific to your car!
