i have no idea how old you are nor do i care, but for one to appreciate the glory of the heavens such as you seem to do is
commendable. yes, the universe is with out shape and is without boundaries. that is a hard thing for us mortals to understand.
we are lead to believe that there are boundaries, a box has it's limits, a gas tank has it's capacity, the pot on the stove has it's ability to contain it's contents. it is people like you that will find life on other planets and keep searching, because, they are there.
we as a race would be arrogant to even think that we are the only ones in the universe. keep thinking, never lose your train of thought, we are not alone in the universe.

First thanks for the website. I love the Hubble images. I am fascinated with astronomy but for other reasons. A note though, did you know that they are making a bigger telescope to replace the Hubble. I forget but i think it will be ten x's stronger. dont quote me on it though
Now to your question. If I looked out and saw all those, and say why isn't there life out there. I would have to ask how it got there and why is it there. I take you believe in evolution, I do not, and this distances of galaxies is not quite accurate. It is to lengthy to explain. But to suffice to say light cannot travel at a constant. If it did then it would spread out as it went. The universe would be more filled with light from all those galaxies, if light was constant and did not spread out to become undetectable by the naked eye, resulting in our need of telescopes. If light does so then it must also slow down. Since there is no way of testing my hypothesis, then there is no way of defining how much because we are limited be here on earth. So this distance is specualtive.
But for the question of life. that is more of religious question more than just a philosophy question.

i seriously doubt that we are alone in the cosmos, but i seriously doubt that we will discover other life forms, or that they will discover us, the place is just too big and human life is just too short. and time cannot really be traversed. (at least not mechanically).
i grew up in the Rocky Mountains...talk about breath taking go up to the snowy range and camp some clear night and look at the sky with no city light pollution...it'll knock yer sox off.
i visit hubble sites frequently and they are also breath taking, and fascinating...

I agree with you. There's just no possible way that WE are the only living beings in the entire universe. There HAS to be hundreds of thousands of planets just like ours in galaxies just like ours who look maybe a lil bit like us and who THiNK.... just.. like.. us... that "there's no such thing as 'ALiENS'..." haha... yes- u r right. with all that space, we cannot be the only intellegent life form out there. and just u KNOWiNG that s is a possibility shows how intellient and enlightened u r... congratulations... have a nice night...

What frustrates and inspires me is that; knowing the state of "man" and knowing the higher calling that speaks to so many of us; the possibility for enlightenment is in our face, constantly calling. My only comfort is the supposed promise of evolution reflected in the glories which surround us. -Namaste-

I think we would be very naive to assume that there is nothing out there...

Awesome pic. We are very naive if we think we are the only intelligent life in the galaxy.
