At my school, I'm called emo 24/7, I don't know why? Is it bad? Is it good? Is it a style? A clothing Brand? Music type? What?

ok. emo isnt a clothing type or a music or anything like that but it is a certain style. its a certain style of music that you like and a certain type of clothing you wear (mostly black) but all together as a whole... some people dont like emo's and other people are ok with emo's. the general stereotype for emo's is that they like the band "HIM", they wear all black all the time, they are real quiet, they cut themselves when they are stressed or angry etc., and some even say they worship the devil. im not one to judge or anything liek that but yea. thats basically what emo is.

It is a style but it is also the way you act it stands for emotional. In my opinion it is sometimes a good thing because you have a sense of style, it is not a BAD thing to be called emo.

I've also been puzzled by this "emo" thing. The best concept I've been able to come up with is that it's what ignorant people think goth is (sort of a poser goth style). It's generally not something good, but just be yourself and forget about the stupid people and their labels.

emo is sort for emotional. its like an emotion punk. kind of like a punk goth mix. people use it to describe a person who likes a certain type of music and dress in a certain type of way. its no big deal. if people are being mean about it then just call them normies (for normal and boring) it works for the emos i know that get crap.

It started out as just a music genre. but now people have turned it into a stereo-type. "emos" usually:

wear all black
dont talk
have long hair
act like their depressed

Emo music is angry/depressed vocals and guitar driven quasi-punk/rock that is also pop at the same time. Sometimes the vocals can get grungy. There are heavy drums, sometimes 2 bass drums, and lots of quick elaborate drumming and cymbals.

Emos aren't punk per se,
Nor Goth, But more of rock with punk/Goth overtones

And they don't wear all black all the time, they usually wear mostly tight bootcut jeans, tight t-shirts and sweaters, studded belts, and longish straight or unruly hair.

EMO: Emotional, very punk-rock, but kinda preppy lots of black and hearts and techno looking tings i think its cute very popular right now, a good place to find emo clothes is Delias or pac sun, a lil even at hot topic.

EMO - Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

::sniff sniff:: "The Demise of the Siberian Traintracks of Our Rusty Forgotten Unblemished Love" sounds like it would make a great emo band name. ::cry::

Emo is short for "emotional" and usually refers to a person who is obviously depressed and/or in a bad mood.
