I am trying to locate the site of an old petrol station in Dunstable Bedfordshire called Gilberts as I have recently acquired a postcard showing the site and would like to know where in the town it was. The old telephone number was Dunstable 282 and the station was somewhere in High Street North. If anyone has memories or can help me with the location then I would be truly grateful.

wow, i like your question. makes my mind ponder. i like how the phone number you say was " Dunstable 282" and the street name "high street North." what an experience to be standing somewhere that you have a picture of 50 years ago and it is so different, that's cool. i really wish i had a larger vocabulary, so that i could really say what i think. >> taking an english class, starts next week. Good Luck on Your Search. i hope someone can help

Try the local library they will have a local history section. Also if you go to the Luton News website they have a lot of old local photos. My memory is a bit hazy but it may have been just over the lights where they built the new shopping precinct in the late 50's/early 60's.The precinct included the library and new town hall, I believe. That is unless that lot has now been demolished - such is progress!!
