I am 37 weeks (38 on Jan. 16th) and I haven't been having BH contractions. Instead every now and then I get really strong menstrual pains and a lot of baby movement. Maybe I have them and just don't realize it, or maybe what I just describe is BH and I just look at them different, I don't know. How can I tell if I am having BH and tell the difference between those and menstrual pains?

it may be possible you are having them but not having any pain with it which makes it a little more difficult to tell. unfortunately for me I feel them everytime so I know when I have mine. All it is is your stomach contracting very lightly. If you cant feel it, its no big deal, It just makes it easier to tell when you have your active labor contractions. Good luck!!

Well generally a braxton hick can make your uterus get hard... it is a mini contraction, so It may be like it slowly getting hard as a rock, then slowly gets soft again, I didnt have BH with my first, it went straight to labor contractions, but this pregnancy i have them all the time, I dont think they feel like menstrual cramps, at least they dont to me. I think cramping is more gas or baby squirming and pushing on your bowels, hurts the same way...
Hope it helped, good luck... and a soon congrats!!

The BH contarctions I've been getting aren't painful, it just feels like my whole belly is tightening up. I am at 33 weeks.
I don't *think* that BH are supposed to hurt like menstrual cramps, sounds more like real contractions to me.

I think you are having Braxton Hicks contractions. Remember you are having a baby so there is no way you can be having menstrual pains. I can saying after delivering baby after baby those contractions do feel like cramps or menstrual pains. You are right, You hare having them and don't realize it. Good luck and congratulations with your new baby!

REAL contractions feel like menstrual cramps or lower back pain.

You're getting there! Good luck!
