I cant say what it is or it will unbalance the answers, so lets just say you have a nice car it may be a bit old but it still works good and has no major problems but you want a new one and you know you should because the old one is shure to have problems sooner or later. Dont make a big deal out of this I am just asking how do you change your mind to want something weather it makes sence or not? I mean what if I get a new one and hate it or as I get used to it I find I dont like it, knowing I could have kept the other one? Dont get me wrong I want it I just dont want it enough to go thru all the hassel of the change. Please help this is killing me!

Something tells me this is about breaking up with someone, other than a car. But lets go with the car. Is it really worth it to waste your time in a car you know you'll eventually have a much bigger hassle in the end? You're probably just having a hard time letting go of it because it's comfortable to stay with what you know, but would you rather be comfortable driving everyday, or really enjoy the ride?

I say you should just don't break up if you can't bring yourself to do it. of course you run the risk of continuing to feel like "the grass is greener on the other side", but you said it yourself (obviously, though not in so many words), being with someone else won't necessarily make you happy either. Clearly, the relationship isn't bad enough that your plan to give it up is concrete, so maybe communication... couple's counseling or just a good ol' sitting down, as they say.

So that was your underlying question, now onto your direct question. It's hard to make yourself want something that you're not feeling at the moment. Like a kid who's set on being an artist being made to go into medicine or law out of a fear of disappointing his/her parents, maybe just going ahead and doing it will prompt you to want it as once you're submerged in the decision, often it grows on you. Or, being practical about it... like making up a class schedule in school. Maybe you don't particularly want ANY of those options, but perhaps you hate creative writing a little less than calculus. So, like with candidate selection, you may be able to get yourself excited about the choice being the lesser of two evils, so to speak.

YOU have to convince yourself. Like anything else, if you don't want something badly enough you won't make the changes necessary to attain it. Only you can motivate yourself. You must not want this new "thing" very badly, or not enough to get off your rear end and do something about it. It sounds like you're playing it safe because the known is always easier than the unknown. Sometimes you just need to throw caution to the winds and go for it!

idk about u but when i want something i get it. even if it takes me a year. but thats just me. U can always trade in tha new car for another one if u dont like it. Dont stress urself over little things and U'll be fine. if u want a new car than get it... if u feel ur old car is still as good as a new one than dont get a new one. but sooner or later u will need a new one. and when that time comes then u'll know what to do

I've experienced similar situations. I didn't necessarily learn to want the "car". But I did learn to deal with it. for what it's worth....

Could it be that you are not distinguishing between "want" and "need"? Sometimes we want things that we don't really need, but rarely do we need something and not want it.
