I'm a white 37 year old male living in england. The vast majority of my neighbours are asian. The local pubs are asian owned.I have sincerely tried to socialise with the guys but they dont want to know and the girls are strictly off limits.I have heard them calling me "gura" whatever that means.I am also constantly overcharged for my shopping...so is this racism I'm suffering here because I am so alienated?

It sounds like they are being racist. I don't know what you can do though, sorry.

AND JUST BECAUSE YOUR WHITE DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT RACISM! Racism is not a disease that can only be spread by white people, Racism is a two way street. Caucasian is a race, therefore people can be racist against them! people who say it's not racism are ignorant and need to look up the definition of the word. ie. racial prejudice or discrimination.

World without racism - I live in China and I am most definitley a minority as a European. I get treated with respect and people are always trying ot help if they think I need it.

For your case and everyone else try and forget the racism thing. Perhaps people just want to stick with their own friends because they don't know you not because you are white and they are not.

I have a big hang up about the color thing. I have no issue with being called white cause I am same as I like the union jack cause it is the flag of my country. I do not understand why we make symbols out to be such a big deal. If your skin color happens to be a certain type what is wrong with it. A bit of self confidence and you might call yourself black or asian or yellow. It's peoples attitude that counts not the words they use.

I have been alienated in the UK for example by people of the same race and color as me it didn't mean it was beacuse I am a certain shade of pink, it just meant they did not know me! (First time I joined my new company people did not know me and certainly didn't welcome me at first)

WELCOME to the world of racism...I have been experincing this for a while now and I have become racist in some cases..Its a diesease..They are racist becuase you are white and they are the majority and they feel that you are treding on there ground..Its like the black and white thing in America..The only thing you can do is to stick up for your own race and just try to ignore them..Find some white friends and a white girl friend and you will feel a little bit better....

Sounds like it to me, but it is largely unprovable. If you were to substitute 'white' for 'asian' and 'asian' for 'white' in your statement then you would see that this is a typical example of what people say is racism. It applies to any colour. Keep smiling and you will eventually earn their 'trust'. Some people are simply not prepared to accept any change in their sad lives - and that includes new faces!

Oh - and I think 'Gora' is 'white'. It seems they are referring to you as 'the white man' which IS racism because they are referring to your colour.

Yes you are. Unfortunately the lack of integration in our society has led to much racism on all the 'sides' so to speak. However unpleasent it may be do not fall to the level of the racist - whatever race they themselves may be - and set an example of tolerance and acceptance. It is that setting of an example that really is the only hope.

i don't believe of African human beings are low class only for being African American. i don't believe of whites are intense class only for being white. From my massive journey dealing with the time-honored public, i might want to inform you that i have met captivating human beings from both races. And surely, black females (not all yet frequently) gown very sophisicated and fancy. different black females that i have considered look as if they stepped out of fashion. attractive! and that i will inform you something else. i will not save in recommendations the perfect time i changed into called "mam" with information from a white guy. yet each and each and every time I bypass a black guy, he behaves like a gentleman, He strikes over in an isle, holds a door for me or steps with information from so i might want to bypass and they continually call me mam. And so do black little ones. Very respectful. My little ones play with a pair of black little ones down the line, and those little ones take care of me with the utmost appreciate. better so than countless white human beings. perchance i'm basically blessed to stay in an section the position there are solid human beings. yet it truly is my own journey.

Britain has become like America.
These things are ABSOLUTELY NOT UNCOMMON in the USA.

Put down all the benefits of Americanization and get your facts straight!

Mate MOVE right now. You live in a segregated area as is seen all over the States. Move with the modern world. Britain IS big enough to live elsewhere.

Perhaps, although I'd hate to commit to that answer without knowing the whole story.

In general, though, it seems like it is bad form for a person to claim that he is a victim of Racism.

yes. some people assume that racism is just something that happens towards blacks and asians. and yet whites themselves can be victims of it as well. don't feel as if you're alienated and not part of the minority because you are. racism is racism, regardless of who experiences it- black, white, asian etc and to people of all nationalities
