The goal line stripe in football is about 6 inches wide so that it can be seen from the stands, I suppose. Does a touchdown occur if the ball is over any part of the line (just the front edge) or does it have to be over the entire line (including the back edge)?

The touchdown is when any part od the ball crosses the plain of the goal line. So that is the fron of the line. That is just like a first down is when the ball crosses the line. hope that helps
