If the earth were to reverse that is to imply that the earth would come to a slow halt and for a breif moment remain motionless before it reverses speed. That would be very bad. Have you ever watched water spin in a container well weather you spin it one way or the other it's still an organized cyclone of water. It is the halting and starting part that causes the sloshing and chaos.

1. If the earth were to reverse all life as we know it would cease to exist.

2. As the reversed speed of the earth increased to it's current speed this alternate world would in time produce simple organic lifeforms that would be similiar to what exists now such as bacteria, germs, amoebas, but billions of years would have to pass before something as sophisticated as man emerged.

It would take a tremendous gravitational pull more so then what is recieved by the sun to cause this...

Well, if you believe the movies, in a Superman movie, Superman reversed the rotation of the Earth and this made time go in reverse, saving Lois Lane's life!

If the rotation is reversed, I guess it depends on how it all happens as to what will happen. If it happens smoothly, one change is that the sun would rise in the west and set in the east. Same with the moon and stars. Everything would move from west to east in the sky.

Another effect to worry about would be weather patterns. I'm sure certain weather effects are influenced by the rotation of the earth.

Maybe it could possibly effect the magnetosphere.

For the most part, once things settled down, I don't think there would be too much of a difference from the way things are now (except for weather).

Though it seems unlikely that the Earth will reverse its rotation, it WILL one day nearly stop rotating. The Earth and Moon will eventually become tidally locked, meaning the Earth and Moon will keep the same face toward each other. A day will last as long as a month.
Hope this helps.

It may have happened. Hence that is why dinosaurs have been found frozen with tropical vegetation in their mouths. It is best explained by: Immanuel Velikovsky (June 10, 1895 (NS) – November 17, 1979) is best known as the author of a number of controversial books on pre-history, particularly the US bestseller Worlds in Collision (1950). This is a fascinating book. He showed that a giant meteor actually hit the earth and it reversed the rotation of the Earth. How? One way he proved it was to travel to ancient sun worshipers temples and he found that even though the front of the temple was designed to face the rising sun .. he found repeatedly all over the world that these temples face the West ... not the East. He compiled enormous, jaw dropping, proof. Carl Sagan tried to prove him wrong but he failed dismally. Read the book .. you will not be disappointed.

West in direction of East. imagine your self viewing earth from the solar. aka a God's eye view. you would possibly want to be certain it rotate in direction of the eastward direction. next time you look at a standard Studios DVD watch the earth on the starting up. The rotating earth is their emblem. on your convenience see the youtube video of it below and its parody

Though highly unlikely to occur, it is remotely possible.

If this happened, it would cause a drastic change in such things as ocean currents, and the El Nino, and La Nina patterns. One thing it wouldn't affect is the seasons, which incidentally are affected by the earths axis, not the rotation

Obviously, the sun would rise in the west and set in the east.

I have never heard of this possibility happening. I have heard that scientists suspect that the magnetic poles have reversed, and will reverse again, and that will cause alto of conundrums. Your question is really new on me. Think the universe itself would have to undergo some totally uncontrolled as yet unnamed situation-----and then what? HUMM? And if your question is political I still say Hummmm?

the sun starts in the east and sets in the west, if it went in reverse witch is impossible it would be from west to east changing the times of the world, the seasons and affecting tides everywhere

That's a totally silly question! The only way to approach it is to make it into a sci fi plot with lots of disasters: mountains erupting, skyscrapers toppling, seismic shocks and tidal inundations, roaring fires and screaming people. The end would have to be something like the planet tumbling toward the sun to be incinerated along with all the people on it who ask dumb questions.
