Yes, in some cities and communities, it seems that crime is rising higher and higher each day..The big city near where I live, I would never go there alone, for any reason of any kind, and no matter what time of day or night, without someone else with me. It was a relatively good city and I worked there in a big Office Complex right after High School and this was down-town and I loved it at that time..Down-town was the place to work all week and return to for dinner and the theater on the weekend.. Now I think about it twice about going there at anytime and it has to be a real good event to get me to go there with friends or husband.

Because there are more nuts and crazies running around than are locked up.
I think that part of the problem of the rise in crime rates is due to the constant flow if illegals coming into the country, though they're not the entire cause of high crime - just a part of it.
I also agree with Hollie W's comment as well - good point, Hollie W. I will also add to her comment that, in today's society, parents don't know how to be parents - they let their kids run wild - no discipline anymore 'cause it's been taken as 'child abuse' by today's standards (spankings, etc.)
People steal because they would rather take what they want than to work for it. People murder because of several reasons: jealousy, hatred, a kick or thrill, greed, money, etc. etc. etc.

In most places they are actually going down. See if you can find actual statistics for your city. Your Mayor's office should be able to help with this. If you are in an area where crime IS going up, consider moving, or better yet, ask what you can do to bring it back down. Get involved in your city politically. Let your Mayor and city counselor know how you feel. Let them know that, you, as a voter, are concerned.
The reason it seems they are going up is that we hear more about the crimes that do happen. We have media of some kind in our faces from the time we wake up until the TV turns itself off after we go to sleep. And, of course, blood and gore sell, so that is what is reported in the media.

For the most part - and I know I will get huge thumbs down for this - it's because western society no longer has anything to believe in. God has been taken out of the education system, and consequently out of the home. Society has allowed permissiveness to reign, and "do it cause it feels good" to rule.
Children are taught that they are entitled to what they have and don't have. Rebels are worshipped as heroes. Parents are reduced to the role of providers instead of teachers and nurturers. The school system is right, political correctness is right, self expression is right, and therefore decency and morality becomes obscure in the process.
We are born with an innate ability to have faith in something. It's what sets us apart from animals. When you take away the reason to have faith - in God, in your parents, in your fellow man - you take away the desire to live for any other reason but self.
this is a very complex question. You will get all kinds of opinions I'm sure, and I, like you will be very interested to read them.

there's more problems in the world in general. The world's getting so much bigger, that it's easier to hide the bad apples in the crowd (murderers, burglars, rapists, etc) and for them to get away with it. There's just more people around, and it's easier to get "lost in the crowd". That's one thought I have on it haha out of a few. In the year 2000, a woman was raped every 2 minutes, someone murdered another every 2 hours, a burglary ocurred every 3 seconds. I'm not making it up, though I wish I were.

I think there are several reasons, First, we have a mix of nationalities in this country unlike most others. We all have our own values. Second: The econony is constructed to create the "HAVES and the HAVE NOTS" and those who don't have, do not see any positive future. Third: Poor training from parents plays a part in it.

Because there are more people in our already overcrowded planet who can;t all get what they want. They have no better ways of releasing their anger/feelings. Or they were brought up like that. Like people in dangerous parts of town like Flint, or Detroit. Some people, I suppose you could say, have nothing better to do. Sure its not the right thing to do. But it is what some people do.

we are in the age of chaos, society is breaking down. We are in a spiritual void. We are in an unforseen future nestled somewhere in time, Unsuspecting victims no warnings, no signs
it's Judgment day and the second coming arrives Before you see the light you must die

no, they are not.
crime rates have actually gone DOWN significantly in the last 20 years.
in general, the world is a much safer place today than it was at any previous point in history. i know that's hard to believe with all the wars and terrorism, but it's true.
there are far fewer wars today than there were at most times in human history
