Question
I lost my Social Security card. What should I do?

Answer
You can replace your Social Security card for free if it is lost or stolen. However, you are limited to three replacement cards in a year and 10 during your lifetime. Legal name changes and other exceptions do not count toward these limits. For example, changes in noncitizen status that require card updates may not count toward these limits. Also, you may not be affected by these limits if you can prove you need the card to prevent a significant hardship.

To get a replacement card:

Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and
Show us documents proving:
U.S. citizenship (or immigration status and work eligibility); and
Identity.
Take (or mail) your completed application and documents to your local Social Security office.
All documents must be either originals or copies certified by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents.

For more information, see Documents You Need for a Social Security Card.

We will mail your number and card as soon as we have all of your information and have verified your documents. Keep your Social Security card in a safe place. Do not carry it with you.

apply for another at your local social security office with birth certificate and drivers license or some other type of I.D. You will have to fill out an application and it may cost a bit. Call first and get all the info you will need. If you do it online you may need a credit card and run the risk of leaking vital info over the internet.

Go to the social security office.Let them know that your wallet has been lost.I would recommend seeing if they can issue a new social security number.Next time don't put it in your wallet.Leave it at home in a lock box or somewhere where people can't get a hold of it.

You will want to go and report to the social security office that you have lost yours, you don't want identity theft to lurk about and then you will need proof that you are who you say you are when you go.example would be your birth certificate drivers liscense etc. They won't just hand you one ya know.
After that you will fill out a form and then it will take a couple of weeks to receive a new one.

Look up your local Social Security Office in the Blue pages of your telephone book. Call them and they can tell you the procedure. In this day of identity theft it is a good idea to memorize your SSN and not carry it with you. I wish you well.
