How come it's the "Security Guard" that always gets killed or commits the crime in shows like CSI? X-Files and most others? It's gotten so bad that my wife and I can predict the shows outcome in the first 3 minutes if a security guard is part of the show. Isn't protecting people and property and honorable profession? I have worked with these guys and they all seem helpful, courteous and professional. Some are better than the Police I have to deal with. what gives in Hollywood? Why do the Producers have a hard- on for Security Guys? I know that there will be a slew of stupid answers for this one, but any honest ones would be appreciated.

LOVE the Star Trek answer :)
The security guard is the new Butler wouldn't you say?
Security guards have a bad rep, many people see them as wannabe cops who couldn't get into the acadamy, just as plumers are always see showing too much crack, or the CEO being a heartless money grabber and priests being child molesters (Not trying to start a big argument, I am just commenting on the stereotypin that takes place in ALL aspects of life, not just race relations)

Someone has to die/be harmed in order to keep things exciting, and the fans don't want it to be the show's stars.

Security guards are useful for getting beaned in the head and their uniforms stolen so the perp can sneak away undetected. I don't think it reflects on some notion that they are not valued members of society; I think it happens to do with the accessibility and the expendability of these blue collar warriors. Besides, being a security guard is most likely a thankless and unrewarding job, so it's not like they are going to make much of an effort to stop the bad guy.

Hit shows like CSI, etc. are hit shows, because they have the writing down to a formula. They know what works, so why fix it if it isn't broken. I hear there's even a drinking game on a website regarding CSI Miami. Having a drink when certain formulaic things happen: i.e. a camera angle looking up at Horatio, is known as the "Horatio as Christ" shot. Also, drinks any time he kneels, puts on/takes off sunglasses, repeats himself ("That is correct, my friend. THAT, is correct."), refers to someone as "my friend", or says "Mr. Wolf." Bonus drinks for the M.E. talking one on one to the deceased, or calling them "baby". Frivolous others - Cally (sp?) having perfect hair in Miami humidity, shooting a gun in the lab, split screens, Delco in the water, etc.

My long-winded point being, sure you and your wife may be bored with the obvious plots, but there's new ways to look at it for fun. You don't have to drink, but you can make it your own game, and a fun evening. Heck, invite your friends and make a theme party! Door prizes for who can guess who dunnit!
