Perhaps the two things you mention are complementary.

After all, what does Islam demand of its adherents?

"Kill them [unbelievers] wherever you find them. Fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah." - Sura 2:191- 193

"Fighting is enjoined on you, and it is an object of dislike to you; and it may be that you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing while it is evil for you, and Allah knows, while you do not know." - Sura 2:216

Some groups around the world, only claim they are real religious. And if they are what they pretend they are; they will never fight, kill or execute.
Islam teaches people peaceful lifestyle, and how to be in harmony especially with non-Muslim to give an example. All these fights we know about based on one this: Politics, Greed and a Power trip that they are practicing on each other. Even the word Islam definition is: Islam came from the word Salam and It means PEACE..

Killing, fighting and create enemies are all a political game that other nations and religions shaped under the name of faith. This entire human act has nothing to do with any faith or worshiping. It’s the madness of control that some groups keep practicing.

It's not about religion or god or anything along those lines. When people are poor and uneducated the results are easy to see, violence and religion are soon to follow. Africa suffers this problem as well. When wealth is not distributed in a fair way people get angry. Many Arabs have been fooled into believing that removing Israel will somehow cure their problems.

Poverty is the true reason these people are fighting, the majority of the people are still very poor, the rich ones with the oil money are not fighting, in fact they are too busy investing their money to be worried about all the fighting going on around them. Plus as long as the masses are fighting about little Israel then they are not worrying about why they are not sharing in the wealth that is being pumped out from below their feet.

In war there is profit. Don't be fooled into thinking this is about religion.

Because the British carved up the area and assigned parts of it to various states/peoples with utter disregard for the consequences.

As such, huge numbers of people have been wronged and injusticed, or pushed into situations where there is no apparent leeway with which to find a mutually acceptable solution.

That's the case with Israel/Palestine at least. We also created Iraq, so we're responsible for that whole mess too.

The reason the Afghans are fighting is because we keep invading them.

We've been doing this for hundreds of years... The British Empire, the Russian Empire, the Soviet Empire, The United States... and nobody has ever won anything by doing so. You'd think we'd have learnt by now.

The Afghans are proud people who will defend their homeland against foreign invaders, and overthrow puppet or foreign-installed leaders. They have always done so and always succeeded in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds.

Basically, the religious beliefs of the average person will come second to securing their welfare, their nation, and their future.

throughout history, people always fought about territory and religion.

in the last 4000 years, there was always a war going on in some part of the world. people fighting each other....countries fighting each other....and even more sad, people of the same country fighting one another just like our civil war where brothers fought against brothers (the union and the confederates).

also, not only different muslim sects fight each other, but christians do too.....in ireland today, catholics and protestants have been warring for years.

that is why it is so very sad that we can't all get along. maybe one day our species will evolve and our brain capacity will expand (we only use 10% of our brain)....we will be able to use more reasoning and logic than the primitive uncontrollable emotional part of the brain.

we will then realize that we are one race, one species. maybe then the fighting will stop.

Most wars throughout history were waged for religious reasons.
but that doesn't mean it was righteous or fair.
If you want to know why are they fighting, find out the history of Israel, USA, former soviet union, in the middle east.

Religion IS the reason for lots and lots of wars and conflicts. Look at Northern Ireland - passionately religious, and fighting for decades. Look back further in history - the papal wars in what is now Italy... the Crusaders in the Holy Land... the Spanish Inquisition... lots and lots and lots.

When ever you ask about "Those people" you are being inflamitory. But your answer is in the question. They are people. Most people have the capability for violence. Christians, Jews, Moslems, etc. included. Very few religions preach non violence at all times in all situations.
