Do you think south park helped world of warcraft by makeing that episode?
in case you didnt see it, there was a episode of south park when they were playing world of warcraft, anyway ever since they made that episode i've been seeing alot of world of warcraft things, like the new expansion set with more characters to choose, or the commercial, i even heared that there will be a world of warcraft movie...before the south park episode i dont think anyone ever cared about world of warcraft, and say had they done another game like city of heroes, do you think every one would start to play that?

I don't think so, considering there were already about 7 million people playing the game when that episode came out. Not to say people didn't go out and buy it after seeing the episode, but I don't think it would have mattered one way or the other.

First of all, the news of the expansion and the movie had been out way before the South Park episode ever aired.
If you look at the numbers, yes the episode helped WoW. Subscriptions went up 110% after that episode aired. But being as how I'm a veteran player (who plays horde, which wasn't even mentioned in the episode), I wasn't pleased with it. I personally was expecting something more...that had an actual point. As South Park always is, it is not true to actual information and events. Why Blizzard advertised the episode on their forums, I don't know. I have a feeling that all these new players watched the episode, thought that was what it was really like and went out and bought it. But here's a tip: Nothing in that episode pertaining to actual gameplay is true, nor is it possible.
And to end all the questions...'The Sword of a Thousand Truths' does not exist. The model they used in the episode was of a sword called "The Hungering Cold"...this sword drops off of Kel'Thuzad, final boss of Naxxramas.

Sephy.. great answer.. i would thumbs up you but i am not a level 2 yet.. lol.. however did you see that in the new expansion they actually will have that sword! As far as a movie, i would love to know more about that... i need to research that one because that is exciting and i had not heard about it yet. *fellow horde player too*

Now to answer the question:

I don't think it helped the game as much as it amused the players... I don't think it would or could have been as funny to non players. I am not saying that no one out there got inspired to play...I just don't think that was the focus of the show. My guess is it was like paying homage to something that has become such a huge part of the gaming community. Any effects other than to humorous were purely a plus to the show. :)

I was actually one of the people that started playing WOW after the episode. A lot of my friends have been trying to get me to play for a while now but when I saw that episode, not only was it one of the funniest, but the game seemed really cool, so I gave it a shot and now I am hooked.

I think that it did. Even in my town it made like 50 people (me too) buy World of Warcraft.
