I'm trying to return to the golden saucer, but somehow I'm running through a dessert. Everytime I go to the next screen, I'm at the same thing over and over again. All i see is big worms fighting me and i fought one catus dude. Am I at the right spot? Where so I need to go?

You can't go to the Gold Saucer from there. You need to go back to Barret's home town - Corral. From there you can take a lift thing to the Gold Saucer.

you have other options....continue playing until you can drive on a car and drive thru the dessert(no screen changing) and head to barret's hometown or go all the the way around the long way..to Correl

You need to take the tram from the town over to the right. The place you're at now will not take you there. What disc are you on? Depending on where you are at on the stroy you might not access to it yet.

you can't get in the golden saucer from the ground/desert - you need to ride up there from correl
