It's pretty much the same either way. By Halloween the Haunted Mansion is decorated like the Nightmare Before Christmas, which will stay like that for Christmas. I don't recall anything else special for Halloween. I believe they put up the Christmas decorations in November.

I used to work at Disneyland for 4 years...worked many a Halloween day/night there. And it's fun...especially since the last year or so they've really started getting more INTO Halloween. I went to the park this year and they decorated it all up really fun for Halloween. They also have Mickey's Halloween Treat now, where you go around to different locations to receive candy (at California Adventure). Anyway, it's cute and a lot of fun for kids.
As far as how it compares to Christmastime...well, it's not nearly as BIG as the Winter Holidays are at Disneyland, but I guess it would depend on which holiday you liked better in general: Halloween or Christmas (or other Winter Holidays). They have whole parades and fireworks and BEAUTIFUL decorations for the Winter holidays.

Last year they started HalloweenTime where they decked out several parts of Disneyland for Halloween. They again had Haunted Mansion Holiday which is the Nightmare Before Christmas Overlay. But they also added things and events to Big Thunder Ranch and Frontierland.
It was definatly not as big as Christmas but it was the first year they went all out. Next year they will probably increase what they do. It may match Christmas in a year or two but it probably will not surpass how well they Christmas now.

Yes, I have been to "California Disneyland" which is the original or the first Disney Park ever at both Halloween time and Christmas time. I think Christmas time is way better than halloween time.

Yes, I went in later October a few years ago and the whole park was decorated with pumpkins with Disney characters carved into them. During Christmas time, the park is extremely crowded. A gigantic Christmas tree is added to the center of the park, and as what the person above me said, the Haunted House is changed to a Nightmare Before Christmas ride.

No Christmas is all in the spirit, and lots of celebs are there and everything is special. I think you should be there during Christmas. During Holloween it is a good place to be with kids because you can go from place to place in everytown there will be trick or treating and you will get candy. But some rides, I'm sure will be scary. But I would perfer Christmas.. Have a great day!!

I've never been there at Christmas time, but at Halloween it was really fun. The whole park was decked out in Halloween decor, and even the fireworks at night were orange and black. It was really cute and it made the Disney experience really fun.
