Aside from being forced to read Romeo and Juliet the worst book I was ever forced to read in high school was by far Silas Marner. I know a lot of people like that book but it bored me to death.

"One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich". Awful. A whole book about this guy's life in prison. I distinctively remember reading about 8 pages on a shovel. A shovel. Describing the wood and metal. Where he buried it. It was so boring. I will say though that I'm biased against most Russian literature that is translated. I think so much is lost in translation (at least that's what I'm assuming because most of my favorite authors are Russians who wrote in English!)

hmmm....

There are so many boring ones!
the winner for most boring: (drumroll)...

Grapes of Wrath

other nominees included:
Tale of two cities (it was the best of times when I finished it, it was the worst of times when I started it)

Catcher in the Rye, which I actually read in German (yes, my freaky German teacher had us reading a translated copy of Catcher in the Rye - instead of just assigning us a german book. I just sat down and read the english version instead. Stupid book in any language.)

going back to middle school for the other nom: Johnny Tremain

My boyfriend's vote is for the book "Ceremony" by Leslie Marmon Silko, which i actually like (and read on my own.)

Watership Down - no question.

If you are lucky enough to have not read it, it's about rabbits and the characters are rabbits. They use some "rabbit words" in the book, so theres a glossary in the front where you have to translate all these rabbit terms to english to know what the heck they are talking about. It was terrible... but I will never forget it :)

Well, because my English teacher stunk so bad we only read one book my senior year of AP (advanced placement, cha right) English - "Lord of the Flies." It was awful.

However, in college the reading (when I chose to read it, that is) was much better. Some of the titles mentioned above were part of my college reading. Mrs. Dalloway, if I remember, was one I skipped. LOL
