Nothing is ever good enough for ppl Yankee fans, they are absolutely delusional. Alex Rodriguez is the best player on the team yet they worship Derek Jeter...ARod had a down yr this season, he hit .285 with 35-38 HR's and triple digit RBI's again, LOL most players would KILL for a season like that! He has already won a gold glove at a new position with the Yankees as well as and MVP. He is the best all around baseball player in the game today by far! (and no one better say Pujols is better, what a joke, they practically put up the same offensive numbers and ARod has a MAJOR edge on defense). Dont get me wrong Jeter is good, he's a leader, but ARod as far as talent goes is flat out better.
However he did struggle in the field BADLY this year but typically he is a gold glover and he'll bounce back this season. I predict he hits around .300 with 40 HR's 110 RBI's and ppl will still call him a fluke..they are morons.

Everyone who hates a-rod is a yankee fan, period. I'm a mets fan and i feel really bad for him because he is a great guy and is such a good player. Sure he had a bad season in the infield, but he hit very well for an off season. I'd like him on my team, even if he played the way he did last year. I mean look at someone like carlos beltran... a horrible season overall for him in '05 he hit 16 homers and 78 rbi's... he came back strong in '06 and a lot of mets fans love him now. People need to realize that a-rod is a great player but he's human. The atmosphere in yankee stadium is too harsh and unforgiving for a guy like him. That's why he had his best seasons with the mariners and the rangers. If he doesn't come back with a .300 year with like 40 homers and 120 rbi's i'll be surprised. Then again if he doesn't hit .400 with 70 homers and 190 rbi's most yankees fans will still hate him and call him overrated. A-rod is a guy you definitely shouldn't hate because he is a great player and he is not overrated and they should chill out on him because he is not the real reason that the yankees didn't win the world series.

He really is a very, very good player.
How many players average 35 HRs, 100+ RBIs, almost 20 stolen bases, and .305 for their career?
For the unitiated, those are amazing career stats.
Rodriguez is in New York.
Within the Yankees, it is an expectation that every year they will make the playoffs.
With that expectation in place, that's how a player is measured: how do you perform at that point in the season when it's all on the line.
Rodriguez is a .305 career hitter, who in the last three years hit .286, .321, .290. During those years he has stolen 28, 21 & 15 bases... hit 106, 130 & 121 RBIs, with 36, 48 & 35 HRs. Not a bad output at all.
Comparable even to Jeter who in the last 3 years has hit .292, .309, 344... stolen 23, 14, 34 bases, hit 78, 70 & 97 RBIs with 23, 19 & 14 HRs.
Difficult to distinguish (from those numbers) who is the better player (Jeter has better avg/base-stealing, but Rodriguez wins the RBI/HRs).
However, Jeter has succeeded in the post-season, whereas in the post, A-Rod has been downright awful, batting an anaemic .071 - with no bases stolen, no HRs & no RBIs in the last season to date.
Add to that, that Jeter appears to be likeable, appears to be quite personable & friendly - whereas A-Rod seems calculating... and has a penchance for saying stuff that puts him in deepwater (pointing fingers at Giambi & Mussina...).
So, by NY's measuring stick - success in the post-season, he's a failure.
Additionally I don't see him as a good match for NY. The fans expect much, and they are not forgiving (ask Randy Johnson!). A-Rod seems to dwell on his successes, or lack-thereof more than's healthy... and this just leads (and has lead) to a downward spiral that's very, very difficult to get out of.
I expect A-Rod to have a good season in '07. But NY fans will not change their tune until A-Rod has a good post.
He'd be better off out of the Yankees, but his pride won't allow that.
A pity, he really is a very good player.

The people that hate him do so because of the money he makes.
No other reason.
If he'd signed a 30 million dollar contract instead of a 250+ million dollar contract, people wouldn't care.
As far as not being that great of a player, that's ridiculous. He's the one player who has a shot at Hank Aaron's and/or Barry Bonds' career HR record (whoever ends up holding it). He is even ahead of Aaron's HR pace at the same age (by just under 100 HR's!) , which almost no one has been able to do since Aaron retired.
(After the 2006 season, by age 30, A-Rod had 464 HRs, Aaron at the same age had hit 366. Barry Bonds had only 292 HR by that age).
The fact that A-Rod "choked" in big games is reason enough for Yankee fans to hate him, but it doesn't expalin fans of every other team in the major leagues hating him. You'd think fans of other teams would enjoy his "choking" a little more than they seem to.

I'm from Seattle and was his biggest fan. Then he went to Texas for $25M/ yr and Seattle people started hating him for going for the money. I say, who of those critics wouldn't go for that much money?? I still liked him. Then, he became a YAnkee, and that, is the unforgivable sin. The Yankees are a hated team around here , so no one is allowed to like anyone on that team.
He is a great player, but he went into a major slump at the end of this last season, so that might be a reason for the recent uproar. I just think boys are stupid when they go around saying so-and-so sucks, when , in truth, they can't suck if they are in the major leagues. Jealousy I guess.

When you are getting paid 25 million a year people expect 40 home runs 150 rbi and for him to bring them a championship, anything less then that isn't up to people expectations. I know that sounds unfair but it is the truth. If Yankees would have won last year everybody would be praising Alex for having another solid year, which he did have but, his playoff performance was ugly as was almost the entire teams. Since he's the 25 million man everything he does is under a microscope, especially in a city like New York.

Alex is an amazing player and he is one of the best all around ever.
To say that he doesn't put up the numbers is ridiculous, for he has and still does.
I think the reason he is so hated is that he doesn't reach expectations. But the expectations are impossible! No matter what he does, people still say that he is doing something wrong. The thing I hate most is when Yankee fans insult him, because that is just shooting down your own player.
He tries so hard to make things work, and I am annoyed that people still do not recognize that.

The trouble with Alex Rodriguez is that he thinks he is great (he is indeed very good, but he is not "great"), and that he is not a Yankee. Oh, he wears the pinstripes, but he is a mercenary.
His choking when it counts is a fact.
Alex Rodriguez is the poster boy for "hot dog," replacing Darryl Strawberry, who never played to his potential either. No, give me Derek Jeter, who is a true Yankee, any day.
A-Rod does not suck, of course, and probably will eventually be in the Hall of Fame, but he has never impressed me. I saved as a souvenier some of the play money that is still dropped from the upper deck of Safeco Field every time he comes to bat in Seattle. I did boo the fans who cheered when he was hit by a pitch, however.

I would have to say that is because A-Rod hasn't been playing very well in the playoffs. He also led the Yankees in strikeouts last season. However, if you are a Yankee fan, those are unfair reasons why people hate him like this. As a Yankee fan, I will support my players while they are in pinstripes no matter what because that is what true fans are. Even though, I also think that the money that ballplayers get is out of control. But, I will support my Yankees while they are in pinstripes.

To be honest, he isn't a bad player. I mean, look at his stats, it's pretty neat. Somehow, he doesn't look like he enjoys playing for te Yankees, though. The guy looks tortured and unhappy where he's playing now. Maybe, it's the pressure that he gets out of having the biggest paycheck which puts the spotlight on him. As a result, everybody expects him to be somekind of a miracle worker. Maybe that's why people hate him or more like disappointed in him. From my point of view, it's a mistake for the Yanks to offer him that exorbitant amount of money and it's A-Rod' s fault to only think of the money and the chance to play for the most storied baseball team without considering the downsides.
