this article is on yahoo's front page and being as yahoo chickened out and we can't post message boards any more-i'm curious what some of your opinions are on this.
i personally don't care-i am not attached to my last name-but i don't think i'd take my wifes last name-not against it but its not for me. i've thought about changing my last name..anyway
i understand this guys reason for it-but i do think its kinda sissy-ish. but hey MORE power to us men!

mobile i agree with you too..however the man has had his last name since birth as well..soooo.
for the record most can do what my wife and i have. we've both kept our last names and she hasn't changed hers. i haven't asked her to-but she often uses it. but legally she still has her last name.
i am fine with that.

i've read that....but i prefer the traditional...men are the head of the family so it should be their surname that prevails....yet, everyone is free to do whatever they like..

If the man wants to take his wife's last name, he should be able to without all the legal hassle. When I married (eon's ago) all I remember having to do was change my driver's license and social security card to my new married name. No money except for the driver's license.....not having to list it in the newspaper or going before a judge.
I think that the couple should be able to decide for themselves which last name they want to use. It's nobody elses business....just the government wanting to dictate responsible citizens rights to choose for themselves. (and getting more money if the man chooses to use his wife's last name!)

I would think it would kind of cool and nice that way the woman
wouldnt lose her name.. remember the woman has had that
name since birth...why lose just because she got married?
it could be hyphenated (smith-Jones)
or something like that..
in fact that was I was planning to do something like that)

I don't think there's anything sissyish about it at all. I think if I had the last name Smith or Jones or something like that I would want to take my wife's last name as long as it was okay with her and as long as she had a really cool sounding last name. What's the big deal about a man taking his wife's last name?

it truly is transforming into extra effortless. On Jeopardy very last evening, Alex Trebek replaced into surprised at between the contestants. This guy replaced his very last call. He and his spouse both picked a clean call and altered their call to "Sinclair". Alex even stated that is neat and requested what he ought to replace his call to. i do not even recognize that guy, yet he touched my coronary heart. i imagine that is so cool. i'm satisfied he received too. This Air pressure MSgt in my workplace replaced his call to his spouse's. I actual have the optimal respect for adult adult males who do this, moreso than adult adult males who do not replace their names. those adult adult males have guts and braveness. i think that is the most honorable aspect a guy can do. It exhibits the guy is protect without a tremendous ego to pastime. you're between the few good adult adult males available who obviously gadgets a good social gathering. i respect you. Your spouse is a fortunate lady. Now, if in effortless words maximum adult adult males available ought to snap out of their caveman procedures and be genuine adult adult males.

I think it's a bit different - not that it's bad. I think it IS a sign of a certain devotion to his future wife. It wouldn't be for me though - when I get married I'm taking my fiance's last name.
